I'm changing the seats in my Fox so i took the headrests off. I was going to put them on my GT's seats but just wanted an idea of the look before i start trying to take the stock headrests on.

Anyone got pics of them on Dark Charcoal leather? Where did you find the correct color dye?

Yes I have them. They look great. I got dark grey ones and they *almost* match the leather, but I'll probably dye them anyway. I've heard that VHT is the best spray dye because it soaks in, it doesn't just coat like paint.
Here's a pic (on another mustang forum):

You can also see them a little bit in one of my garage pics here on Stangnet.

I had mine covered in matching leather...I even have the proper stitch pattern in the rests.

How much did they charge you to cover them in leather?

I was thinking of doing this to better match the seats

Remember, I am from Canada but I paid $275.00 for leather, and they gave me a serious deal on the labour...charged me less than half. They did them 3 times on the one, and 2 on the other before they were perfect, and show quality. I am thrilled in the end. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Sort of. You have to pop the old ones out by sliding a piece of wire coathanger (or something similar) down the groove in the front of the headrest shaft. When it stops, press down sharply and you'll feel a click. (you're releasing a button, or something) The headrest should slide right out. There's a plastic insert that you need to pull out also -- the new headrest shafts are smaller than the Foxbody style and the insert just works like an adapter to take up the extra width. Now the Halos should just slide right in.

If anyone wants to do this and is having difficulty finding the halo headrests in the 85-86 GT Mustang, you can find the exact same headrest in the 85-89 Ford Escort GT. They will fit the Mustang seats.

All of the Ford headrests from the mid '80s to early '90s that had the single center post will interchange between the different seats.

Nope, they are Ford OEM only, and you'll only find them used, on EBay, or from a junkyard.

I got mine from an escort GT for about $15. They were in my Fox, but now i want to put them in my GT but unsure if i should just dye or spring for leather covering?
