Anyone ever pass a tailpipe test with an x pipe with highflow cats??

See my mods list. I did the work last fall and had to have it smogged in February. It passed cleaner than it did when it was new.

Hey.. thanks... I actually ordered a pacesetter off road x pipe from mustangs unlimited ... it is on back order though and they haven't actually put the charge through yet so I may cancel it... and I just saw a few x pipes with cats for about 229.99 on ebay... about the same as I can probably get a pro chamber for .. upside is that I won't have to switch back to the original h everytime I need to get emissions ... I have bbk equal length headers... and have been experiencing a exhaust leak where I mounted up the old h pipe... haven't tried to adjust it much other than just trying to tighten it which didn't seem to work ... the x pipe I was looking at is in two pieces... so I think that will make it easier to get each bolted up there nice and snug.. will probably use some high temp silicon just to be sure!! Definetely would be nice to have the front part of the exhaust solid... then I can just concentrate on the cat back ....

Yes. I have the magnaflow catted X and it passed with flying colors with everything in my sig. At 15mph I had 2 HC and 0.00 CO and at 25mph i had 3 HC and 0.00 CO. Better that my corolla hehe.

I would cancel the Pacesetter O/R, and get an X-Pipe with high flow cats. You have a 2% chance of passing Ontario emissions without em, and it is illegal to not have OE smog equipment on your car in the province. Technically, a catted X-Pipe is illegal here, but if a smog copper inspects the underside of your car they will see cats on there and let you go (unless you get a total ass, that happens to know 87+ Mustangs have two pre-heaters before the cats , lol). It's a $400 fine last I heard to not have cats on your car here, which clearly outweighs the 1HP increase you'd see with an offroad pipe, given your mods. Also, more pieces mean more potential exhaust leaks, but a two piece midpipe shouldn't be too bad. You should also look into upgrading the catback while you are taking off the mid-pipe. You will have the full exhaust finished at once, increased flow and better sound from front to back.

hey I cancelled the pacesetter pipe... just need to save up enough to get the one with cats.. is quite a bit more expensive... saw a pretty good deal on ebay though about 229... which is pretty good... I don't have enough to do the catback yet.. but when I do save up enough.. I want to get a stainless steal one that is guaranteed for life!!

Magnaflow are the only catted X pipes that have a CARB number for California. You might want to take a look into some though they will cost you a pretty penny.

Mine passed with the UPR cat'ed X-pipe just dandy last year, and it ran better numbers than it did with the butchered-up semi-stock H-pipe that it had on the year before. Frankenstang's got it on her '86 'vert right now, so we'll see what kinda smog numbers it runs on that thing soon...

what were your readings?

A couple suggestions I would make about emissions tests... I had a hard time a few years ago but figured it out.... big thing is make sure the basics are covered... do a oil change... make sure your plug wires are good... make sure you have decent plugs gapped right... check your cap and rotor.. and also make sure your air filter is clean... I haven't ever changed my fuel filter but have been told that it is important.... another big thing is to make sure it is warm before it goes in.... have made that mistake myself... sometimes at places around here like canadian tire they will take your keys and the car will sit in the parking lot for sometimes up to an hour and will cool down. then they take it in and it fails... one thing I did was take it for a good run on the highway... then drive it to wherever your getting it tested... go give them the keys or whatever.. but if you have a extra set of keys go out to the parking lot and keep her running... till right before she goes in.. that honestly helps!!!! Other than that.... my guess would be o2 sensors pcv or egr valve... do you have a smog pump hooked up??? check your engine error codes too!! engine off and engine on codes.. oh and while your at it throw a bottle of guarantee to pass in there....

another quick thing about the smog pump... if you do have it working alot of people have problems with there tab tad and egr vacuum solenoids.... \
