Well I remember that MM+FF used the XE274 (or something close to that) grind in their 2V engine, and it was a fantastic addition. Added 105 hp to the blown motor, and something like 40 hp to the N/A version. So Im guessing that one is pretty good too. Just be sure to have a good install done, a couple people have noted valvetrain noise, but this wont happen if it's done right.

I have the XE270AH cams. You definitely need a tune as mine would die at stoplights and didn't want to idle very well. With the tune, its just like driving a stock car, but you have a nice lopey idle.

It won't shake your fillings out of your teeth at a stoplight, but its definitely lopey and any gearhead within hearing distance will know its cammed. My tuner set my car to idle a 850RPM. I suppose if it idled closer to the stock idle number, it would be pretty rough.

I got em too. they have a pretty choppy idle but you can raise the idle to smooth it out if you want. Drivability is pretty good I think, but there is a lot more power like 4k on up. I agree with clgt that you will have to have a tune.

What do you need to go with a 270 grind cam. You can still run the stock PI intake right? Would I have issuse cause of my auto trans?

your PI intake will work, but you will probably want to get a torque converter and a tune.

Perfect I wanted to get a converter anyways. The 270 grind is the middle stage right?

Aren't new springs needed for the 270s? The valves are opened for a longer time period and at very high rpm, there is a lot of strain on the [stock] springs. For information, the 262's are the 'street' - you can use stock springs, the 268s are the 'mild street', and then there are the 270's and 274's. The power gains increase in the series but the power is produced higher up in the powerband as you go up the series.

You don't want to do the cam install twice so call Comp Cams for their recommendations for springs and cams for your application. Their techs are there to help out and the help is free (well, it's built into the price of the cams but you know what I mean).

Yeah I think you need new springs with the 270's. Comp makes them they are like $190

nyuk98gt, how do you like your cams? Also how do you like your Jmod? You have similar mods to me any Idea of what numbers or times you are making? I have a lowly 213hp and 260tq. I'm looking to do some cams, LTs, and an off road mid pipe not sure if I want to stick with an X or switch too an H pipe.

They had to play with the air/fuel tables in the EFI mapping because I had also added LTs, X-pipe, plenum, etc. right before the dyno. I took the car into the shop running a Steeda reflash. He said it wasn't that far off, but was too lean down low.

I am running the XE278AH Comp Cams in a '96 306 stroker with a supercharger. Definately a lopey idle but serious power in the 2500 - 6000 rpm range. Your stock springs are good to .550 lift which is what the 278 has..........
