Anyone using the FMS steel blowproof bellhousing?

Its the cheapest steel blow proof i've seen. oemfordparts.com has it for $240. Im just wondering if it comes with the bolts? It says it comes with the bell and block plate. I believe its made by mcleod. I'll be using it with a tremec tko.

Yes -- it is. I have not used it, but the fact that you can use it with a T-5 or a Tremec is certainly appealing.

I know it will have at least the bolts to the block plate, but not sure about any others. You can either call FMS or McLoed and see.

BTW, I have also heard that an extended clutch fork is recommended for any type of blowshield -- but not sure if it's necessary for this one. This is the one I've been looking at too.

Instead of the thin aluminum piece you have now between the bellhousing and the engine block, you get a piece of steel. I guess it's just supposed to further ensure that a clutch failure is contained inside the blowshield, and keep it from damaging your engine block(???).

Anyway, if you look closely, you can see that now instead of the four(?) bolts that bolt the aluminum piece and bellhousing together, there's probably 20 bolts for it. Those I know come with it -- not sure about any others.

Im runnign the Mcleod. You get a TON of bolts with it. You get 6 to bolt directly to the block. The rest is a series of nuts, bolts and lock washers for the blockplate to scattershield. YOu also have to drill the tremec to 1/2" holes to bolt it to the bell. No biggy though....

Thanks guys! So I just take a drill and open the hole to 1/2" huh? What size is it now, 7/16? Hopefully the fms one comes with all the nuts and bolts. $240 is a really good price for a blow proof bell.

Also, what about bolting the tremec to the bell? Stock bolts work? Should they be replaced?

What exactly do I have to do about the x member? Is moving it back a must? Any other way around it? I have a dremel here that we dont use much, hopefully it has the right bits to grind down welds. How far back does it have to go and is this hard?

It will come with all the bolts that you need. I used my dremel and some cutoff wheels. Grind the tack welds around the tubes and slide it back.

Do stock T5 bolts work to bolt the tko to the bell? I bought it used (still waiting for it).

Mcleod wil suplly the bolts, including for the tranny. It uses half inch bolts instead of the stock ones.

The TKO uses the larger 1/2" holes and you will have to drill them bigger. As for the bolts, I was going to use the ones McLeod sent but decided to find better bolts at the hardware store. If you look at any other OEM or aftermarket transmission bolts, they have an unthreaded sleeve up by the bolt head where the bolt goes through the transmissions cast mounting tabs. Supposedly this makes them stronger because it won't be resting any weight or containing movement on the threads(the weakest part of the bolt), especially if you've seen how far an engine/transmission can 'twist' under acceleration with stock or worn out mounts.

Awesome guys, thanks! Looks like this FMS blowproof is a really good deal @ $240! I guess i'll start ordering all the rest of the crap I need. I'll probably use that mcleod clutch from d&d's site. I gotta find out of its a special one or just a standard mcleod because I saw a regular mcleod for a tko on x2c's site for $219 as opposed to $269 from d&d.

One more question. What do you guys think about a driveshaft loop while im there? Is it a pain in the dick to install? I'll be using a fms 31 spline alum shaft.

Loop is n/p. You have to pull the seats to make bolting it in easier. I bought the jegster one, happy with it.

I'm using the FRPP (Mcleod) Bellhousing as well with my TKO. It basically come's with everything you need except the extended clutch fork. I'm still using the stock length factory T-5 fork without any problem's. Overall I have no big complaint's about it.... my header's cleared which is sometime's a concern with steel belhousing's and everything else bolted right up.
What struck me kind of odd, is if you buy the same bellhousing from Mcleod (The actual Manufacture) it's about $100.00 more then getting through Ford Racing. (At wholesale prices yet)

That's funny.... I don't know about that Saltymaz guy... I'd eat my shorts if that guy even came close to 400rwhp. I've seen alot of post's by that guy and have come to the conclusion that's he's basically a moron. (I don't mean to be an a**hole toward's other members but I've had to many bad experiences with this guy) He talk's like he know's it all, bull S**t's about what he has on his car etc. etc. Look at his "My Garage" pics... he claim's that yellow junk yard 351 is a crate engine.... check out were he mounted his fuel pump as well. He even has his carb sitting backwards on the intake.
