i was just curious because of the 3spd auto behind chrysler's 2.5t can interchange with the 3spd behind their 3.0 v6 too. i didnt know if since they're somewhat the same, if i'd be able to put AOD internals into my A4LD to reinforce it.

another somewhat OT question. what years did fomoco have detachable bell housings with their transmissions? if i'm lucky, it'd be '88 but anyone?

-thanks.

No, it doesn't work that way. The only things that AODs and A4LDs have in common is that they're both overdrive automatics and they're both from Ford. Nothing swaps, not even the mount.

It wasn't so much the model year that determined whether or not a trans had a removable bellhousing as much as it was the type of transmission.

ah, well people keep telling me that there were years where the C4s had removable bell housings, both for 2.3 and 5.0(or any of those displacements).

C-4 /C-5 had removeable bellhousing. I have one in my 89 2.3t. But now we are talking about a 3-speed not 4-speed.

Yes all C4's have removeable bells. I know bells are available for 460's, M motors, sbF's, most of the straight 6's, some v6's, and the 2.3.

Not sure that they are universally interchangeable, but you should be able to put a setup behind any of those motors.
