AODE tranny leak???Please Help!!!

Today while taking off my stock h-pipe I noticed that my transmission has been leaking fluid.Im not much of a mechanic yet, so Im not 2 sure what it could be, but the whole bottom of the tranny pan was kinda covered in fluid and it was leaking down into the tray that the 02 sensors rest in. Is this the sign of a bad gasket, or could it be something else? Any info would help...Thanks

Just check that all the pan bolts are snug but don't over tighten. The gasket can relax over time. Then clean the area with brake clean and drive the car to isolate the leak. The pan gasket may be worn out which isn't that hard to replace.

more than likely the gasket...When I had an AODE in my '97GT, I had all the fluid flushed out and the filter replaced...but the guys didn't replace the gasket, so I had a leak around the pan...

the hardest part is refilling the tranny after you change the gasket...

If I were you and if you haven't done so already, take it into a shop that has one of those machines that removes all the auto fluid...and replace the gasket at the same time.

to check out your fluid...pull the dipstick out and dab it on a white piece of paper...mercon should be redish in color...if it's brown, time to change out the fluid

How is filling an auto trans hard? If you are refering to the flush where they attach the machine to the pressure and return lines for the cooler I would not reccommend that. Particles can become dislodged and cause problems aka rebuild. It happened to me on a previous vehicle I owned.

re-read that, I was implying that the process is not hard at all, and the hardest part would be refilling the transmission

Another thing to check on is if the oil change machine will also exchange the fluid in the torque converter. As far as GM's are concerned, some do not exchange all of the fluid-and after what 97rmcobra said, I don't think that is an option anyway....why take the chance.
