EXAMPLE:

January 30, 2006

Mr. Smith - Dir. of Human Resources
Raymond Kate Associates
524 Fair Lane Street
Any City, State 78194

Dear Mr. Smith:

I am responding to your advertisement in The City Tribune (dated 1/20/00), regarding the Pharmaceutical Representative position. Please find enclosed my resume showing my education, experience, and background.

I have over 7 years experience in the sales and marketing field, and 3 years experience as an LPN staff nurse.

Throughout my sales and marketing career I won top sales awards, and trained other sales representative’s specific sales techniques to increase their sales. I enjoy working with the public, as well, demonstrating products, and educating others in their uses. I believe I would excel in pharmaceutical sales because I truly find sales a challenging and rewarding career; as well, my nursing background offers an advantage in better understanding the products I would sell.

May I arrange an interview to further discuss my qualifications? I am available for an interview at a mutually convenient time.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Sally B. Doe

besides for a good cover letter and good resume..you need to be Agressive!! you need to call these people a day later after the interview or after you send you resume and ask them for a status on it.....this will show you are interested. and keep calling them...if you dont someone else more aggressive than you will and they will get the job.

i just want out of my current job and back into the car industry. this was a purchasing agent job.
they also had another job i wouldnt mind applying for. do yall think it would be ok to send in another application for the other job as well?

All cover letters should:
Explain why you are sending a resume.
Don't send a resume without a cover letter.
Don't make the reader guess what you are asking for; be specific: Do you want a summer internship opportunity, or a permanent position at graduation; are you inquiring about future employment possibilities?
Tell specifically how you learned about the position or the organization — a flyer posted in your department, a web site, a family friend who works at the organization. It is appropriate to mention the name of someone who suggested that you write.
Convince the reader to look at your resume. The cover letter will be seen first.
Therefore, it must be very well written and targeted to that employer.
Call attention to elements of your background — education, leadership, experience — that are relevant to a position you are seeking. Be as specific as possible, using examples.
Reflect your attitude, personality, motivation, enthusiasm, and communication skills. Provide or refer to any information specifically requested in a job advertisement that might not be covered in your resume, such as availability date, or reference to an attached writing sample.
Indicate what you will do to follow-up.
• In a letter of application — applying for an advertised opening — applicants often say something like "I look forward to hearing from you." However, if you have further contact info (e.g. phone number) and if the employer hasn't said "no phone calls," it's better to take the initiative to follow-up, saying something like, "I will contact you in the next two weeks to see if you require any additional information regarding my qualifications."
• In a letter of inquiry — asking about the possibility of an opening — don't assume the employer will contact you. You should say something like, "I will contact you in two weeks to learn more about upcoming employment opportunities with (name of organization)." Then mark your calendar to make the call.

Yep, great copy/paste skills

I say that because it looks like he copied and pasted that, especially since the last two have bullets and the others don't; he possibly forgot to delete those bullets out.

Just breakin' your balls, man, don't take it personally. If you did write that, good job. Either way it's good info

No offense...

well i called the company i was applying for and they said i didnt get the job.( i was calling as a follow up.)
he told me that i had most everything except the purchasing exp. or management exp. he was very nice and explained it too me, i did like that he took the time to explain the whole situation and what they were looking for. Very nice guy. he told me that he would keep the application if i wanted him too, he said i will be considered for future openings.

the company is??? take a guess
