Are my rear shocks worn

guys, i've been driving the mustang for the first time in a while since my DD is out of commission and i guess i never realized how bad it handled. the rear end is skipping and jumping over rough pavement - more that the typical SRA hop and skip. it also feels like i'm carying a ton of bricks in the trunk whenever the road dips; its almost bottoming out and then launching on the rebound.

I'm starting to think the rear shocks are worn but i did the "bounce test" and it seems pretty solid. is there any other way to check them? could something else be causing this? car has 81k btw

Get under the car and look?

Mine were leaking at 70k and turned out to be a replacement set. If yours are stock, they need done.

81K on stockers means they are probably worn out. I'd get some new ones for sure. I'm lowered 2 inches, but mine were totally shot at 42,000 miles, and I wasn't lowered for many of those miles.

well i just did the same "bounce test" on my g/f's accord and its definitely more solid mine. what are some decent replacements?

Depends on what you want to spend. I love my Bilstein's.

Depends on how stiff you want it back there.
Tokico blues handle better than stock and have the same feeling as stock
Bilsteins handle much better than stock but are firmer than stock
Cant go wrong with either

Sounds like they are shot. I would go with either bilstien or tokico. You really cant go wrong with either. But since you complained about the handling I would consider some kind of upgrade package such as an MM starter box that comes with shocks/struts, springs, and CC plates. That one package will completely change the way your car rides and handles. After that add a panhard bar and dont look back.

The stockers are definately worn at your miles. Time to replace them.
