I have a '06 GT with the Premium option and leather seats. Looking closely at the rear seats, they do not appear to be made of the same material as the front seats. I looked closely at the "diamond" imprints, and they seem quite different. I know on the front seats, the only part that is leather is where you actually sit, as the sides are vinyl. I'm going to detail the interior this weekend, and I want to use the right products. I'm wondering if the rear is all vinyl. Any one know for sure?

I guess on my 09 all the seats look the same, and I used leather conditioner on every portion of it. I would imagine if it has "leather seats" then they all should be leather, and the whole thing.

I don't think they are all leather, but most leather products are still OK with vinyl. Read the ingredients and see if there would be a problem. I think you will be OK.
I use leather cleaners, conditioners on all parts of my seats.

The rears are not leather. Only the surfaces your body touches on the front are leather. That said, I've never had any problems using leather products on them on any of my Mustangs.

The sides and back of the front seats are vinyl as is all of the rear seats Ford has been doing that in the Stangs since the late '90s and thus I don't like they still charge $500 for the "front leather inserts" option My '95 had full leather front and rear, but my '00 didn't...

Ford has a name for these leather seats. They are "Pleather" as in Plastic Leather.

Price is high and quality, well it could be better. I have the optional red interior in my 2007. The dye is coming off the front side of the driver's seat, which I rub against every time I get in and out of the car. The car has less than 20,000 miles on it. Ford is replacing the seat cover under warranty but I am waiting until spring, just before the warranty runs out, so the new one will last as long as possible.

I wish the front seats were made out of the same material as the rear seats. I hate the front seats in my '05. The leather on the bottom section is getting shinny, and has those ugly "wrinkle" line in it from getting in and out. I wish there was some way to fix that somewhat easy.

Thanks for the responses. I kinda figured the back seats weren't leather. I use Lexol Leather Cleaner and Lexol Leather Conditioner for my seats that are leather, and I use Lexol Vinylex for the vinyl seats. Leather and vinyl are quite different in what they're made of, and in my experience, using the right product on the material makes a big difference.

Vinyl is substituted for leather frequently because they have similar properties. I would doubt a leather cleaner/conditioner would cause them any harm. My back seats look brand new.

I think they can feel similar, but from what I understand, vinyl is a form of plastic and isn't from nature like leather. I'm no expert, but from what I've read on various car care and detailing sites, there are specific products that work best with vinyl, and others that work best with leather.
