Hey all, I have a built Art Carr C4, reverse manual valve body, with a 4000 stall and a transbrake behind an '03 cobra motor making 455/457 at 12.5 lbs of boost on 93 octane. There's a custom aluminum driveshaft, SFI flexplate and aluminum flywheel, etc. I posted in here rather than in 4.6 Tech because many more 5.0 guys run C4s than 4.6 guys. My car is a bit of a fluke...

Does anyone run an Art Carr C4? I was told not to downshift these transmissions while moving. If I'm cruising along at 2500rpm in 3rd and some dinky import pulls up next to me, I can't slam it down into 2nd and take off to get into the power band faster? Can these transmissions not handle the abuse? Can I leave in 2nd off the transbrake? Any help is appreciated, I'm new to built manual trans cars. I've always driven stick so downshifting was never an issue, obviously. Thanks in advance.

Haha, they told me it's perfectly fine to downshift within reason. Obviously, since these transmissions don't have synchronizers or anything to govern the speed the parts inside spin at, or at least that's the message the tech guy conveyed to me on the phone. He said one thing NOT to do is to try to coast in neutral with the car while moving (like in a manual trans car), because that almost always results in a C4 grenading.

But, overall he said it's fine to kick the car into lower gear to get into the power band faster, and these C4s are built to take a hell of an amount of abuse, which I'll be happy to provide. :D
