I think I've got it figured out (thats what worries me the most). I am in the process of adding 7 relays and a painless kit to my 67, and have been buried with the wiring. I have drawn out the engine compartment (most of it, not counting the gauges) and put it to electronic form. I would appreciate it if one of you electrical guru types would look this over for any mistakes I've made before I begin cutting/routing/splicing.

I have a wizbang html version of the document on my website but it is only IE6x friendly. If you have that browser it should work best for you to click here:
http://www.edbert.net/engcompwiring.htm

If you don't have IE6 then you can see this, but it is large and a little blurry:

I printed it out and I am taking a look at it over lunch. I have 2 questions so far:
1. Why is the terminal and starter connected?

I would move the large black wire going from the terminal to the starter and make it go between the terminal and the alternator.

2. Why are there 2 relays for the water pump? (2 pumps?, redundant system?)

I am using a late-model permanent-magent starter. The heavy gauge cable is there to allow full battery amperage during start. The smaller (8ga.) wire is there for actuation.

I completely left out the red alternator exiter wire! It should connect directly to my terminal block (one hop from the B+) according to my thoughts.

It was recommended by Mark over at Mad Electrical (http://www.madelectrical.com). I asked him twice, becasue my water pump is rated at 11-14amps and these are 40amp relays. He said those are normal (average) draw ratings and that they (large CFM fans and high-volume water pumps) can spike high enough to damage the relays. By setting them up in parrallel I am just that much more "overbuilt".

Then you really don't need the solenoid in the trunk (since the late model starters have the solenoid built in), right?. I would still run the power to the starter from a separate cable straight from bat, then have a charge cable coming from the alt to the terminal, then from terminal to bat.

Sounds good about the pump. Mark does know his stuff. Have you seen his Ranchero?
