a manual computer (i'm not sure but I think you could get a fordchip instead of buying a whole brain), manual trans, clutch and brake set, clutch cable, and there's some sensor you need to get rid off that plugs into the auto. There's not a whole lot to it really.
1) manual tranny if you have a 94-98 you need a tranny from that year range... if you have a 99+ you need a tranny from that year range
2) transmission wiring harness (its a pigtail that plugs into the main wiring harness in teh engine bay. Same thing applies for the harness as did for the tranny.. you need to get wiring harness from you car year range... also as a note.. 94 & 95 cars have a different harness than 96, 97, and 98
3) transmission crossmember (same thing applies with getting one from your car year range)
4) swing pedals. 94+ pedals will work, i'm not sure on teh year, but i believe that 94 & 95 cars have a different system for the cruise control, I got swing pedals from a 94 car and i had to swap over the cruise control pieces from my auto swing pedals to the 94 5 speed swing pedals
5) 5 speed yoke. The autos and 5 speeds have different yokes
6) you need a clutch, throw out bearing, and pilot bushing
7) clutch fork
8) clutch cable
9) misc interior pieces (including upper and lower shift boots, and the piece that surrounds the shifter that pops into the console.
10) finally, you will have to fix the pats issue as well... 94 & 95 cars do not have to worry about this for they do not have PATS.. but for the rest of us...
the auto and 5 speed computers are different, so you would need to swap computers for the car to run properly. However, with pats, your computer and your instrument cluster are linked together by your vin number and you need a key programmed to your computer to start the car, so if you swap computers, you won't be able to start your car
you basically have the following options to fix this problem:
1) take your car to a ford dealer and have them swap the computers and program the computer to your car. Although this sounds easy, not very many ford dealers can do this.. i checked with every ford dealer in my area, and non knew what i was talking about, others said swapping to a 5 speed cannot be done, even though i drove to the dealer with the 5 speed in my car!
2) get a fordchip (RECOMMENDED OPTION)
the pats issue can be dealt with later as your car will run with the auto computer, it just won't run at it's peak performance
it`s not worth the money to swap to a 5spd. the T-5`s aren`t known for great strength. just build your auto. a performance upgrade on the 4r70w and a 2500-3000 converter will be a far better set up for the same cost as switching to a 5spd. and much easier to launch with quicker shifts.
