Axed the mufflers...

I had no intention of using any type of axle back system. Once I heard a sound clip of the 3-valve with no mufflers, I knew what I wanted. It now has a much louder idle and a more throaty, raspy sound under throttle. Under full load and cruise, the sound is much like stock though.

I found a set of decent looking 3" tips with a small baffle in them, and off to the exhaust shop. They will be black when I get done with them.

The tech part is this is a cheap alternative to an axle back. Originally I intended to keep the stock tips, however it was going to cost more to cut them off the mufflers and align/weld them back in place. You can also remove one of the hangers per side, as the pipe is lighter than the muffler.

I was also thinking a baffle might kill just enough noise to eliminate resonance. No resonance detected. I am pleased.

A fast ramp rev yeilds evil growls. Cruzin? A nice open sound not much higher a decibel over stock.

I will try to get a sound clip soon. The tip offers a rasp to the note, so it is just a bit different than the one I heard posted here a couple of weeks ago (I believe it was StangNet).

Hey, glad you like it...But whats with the tips? They have to make a ton of back pressure, the hole is only like what 1 inch, then with tiny holes? I would pull that off, it would also look way better with some nice 3.5 inch tips IMO. Like going with 3 inch exhaust all the way to just over the rearend, then the last foot you reduce to 2 inch....your basically defeating your purpose. Again JMO. Nice car BTW.
