Quick question, has anyone experienced your rear axles and drive shaft rusting? I noticed this on my 07 GT this afternoon and was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them.

Thanks. Is that covered under the warranty?

Yep, they all do it, they are not painted from the factory.

It never seems to hurt anything, so I don't worry about it.

Except on my toy, where I have usually at least pressure washed and painted the axle and driveshaft. This makes them easier to handle when you remove them. I also coated my Ford aluminum driveshaft with clear.

You can't prevent regular steel from rusting and that's what Ford makes them out of. If you did get it replaced the new one would rust too.

Just so you sleep a little better, it's almost always surface rust. If you live in a salty area (up north or on the beach) you might want to pressure wash and paint or something. I wouldn't worry about it all that much, though.

Just paint them if it bothers you, otherwise, its fine like everyone else said. You are safe.

POR15 is some pretty badass stuff. However I wouldn't put it on the driveshaft. I know some people who used it on their driveshafts, put it on too thick, and the driveshaft ended up out of balance. I know it sounds crazy but trust me on it. Just scuff everything up with 220 and hit it with a few coats of Rustolem.

Or upgrade your driveshaft to an aluminum one! Gives you (or your wife) an excuse to upgrade your car!

Yeah every car that has a steel driveshaft has rust there, it is nothing to worry about. My 08 had it off the showroom floor.
