Back up lights don't work

Trying to figure out why my back up lights won't work (did a search but didn't find any help). Just bought the car ('89 vert) so I'm not sure how long they haven't work. Bulbs and fuse are good, wiring and sockets look fine, I'm thinking there must a switch by the shifter or on trans (5 speed man.) that may be bad??? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think part of the wiring that plugs in to the driver side of the T5 has to do with the reverse lights. May just check to see if everything is plugged in if you already haven't.

The switch is inside the tranny and not ajustable. Hopefully it is corroded connectors or just a loose wire at the tranny.

unplug the switch and turn the key on.jump the connector over and if the lights come on then it's just the switch.if not then you have a more serious problem.
