Bad news need some help ASAP-motor troubles

Do you think the trans is ok? Or will u not know until its back together?

My buddy just did this in his 06 GTO....I've missed second...missed third....every time i end up in neutral....but how do u miss a gear, slide over the shifter, and hit another gear? Are the gates closer together on 6 speeds?

It just seems like u have to pull at like a 45* to accomplish this.

My buddy is taking them apart tonight and is going to spot them with the new valves to make sure they seat nicely. If so, then we're putting them back together with some new valve seals. If something doesn't look right we'll be taking them to a shop. I'll keep my fingers crossed and feel better when everything is back to normal. Then it's time to put my new clutch in!

I hope you aren't referring to trailer doing the work.

I think we both would LOVE to know the answer to this. Not to mention he wasn't even going through the gears, just slow normal shifting.

Well for some reason the shifter doesn't snap back to center. Maybe the steeda springs aren't strong enough or the trans isn't broken in all the way yet. I dunno. Either way I'm sure this didn't help.

And yes all the gears feel tighter together. I'm not sure if they actually are or not.

It doesn't need to snap back to center it was in THIRD, which is the center.

So the sealed power valves were got are junk. They all have dings in the mating surface of the valve. WTF??

So we're going to get the same manley race valve that I had in there from summit.

Also, most importantly we found out that NONE of my exhaust valves had seal on them, but the intakes did. We're pretty convinved that is why car car has been smokinh upon hot startups. The seals that were in there were not like the new felpro one we got, which I believe are viton with stell bacnds around them. This made me realize that I actually found part of my seals in my motor last year when I had it apart, but didn't know what the pieces where.??? It all makes since notw. So I'm thinking with hot turbo exhasut make sure your seals are good quality and in tact.

well for some reason three of the intake valve seats need to be touched up and none of thos valves even hit the pistons. Probably unrelated to the lil accident. Should get the new Manley race series exhaust valves on Tuesday from summit!

In the mean time this weekend I put in a new (stronger) clutch and rear main, resurfaced flywheel etc.

Hopefully all this works out and then I can worry about tires before headed away for a car show weekend in two weeks. Oh and putting my new stereo stuff in too!

If it isn't carlisle it isn't *****.

I can't wait for the ridiculous stuff we get ourselves into.

I feel your pain. As mentioned earlier I went from 3rd to 2nd during a 1/4 mile run and I too sent all of the exhaust valves into the pistons and had the same rough idle/vibrations. I never ran that shortblock after that as I built my dart 331 at that time, but I did fix the heads and ran them on the 331 and now they are on my cobra. I did not need a valve job, a simple lapping (sp) of the valves was all that I needed. I diagnosed mine with a leak down test prior to tearing into it and when I heard the pressurized air coming out of the tail pipe I knew immediately that I had bent the exhaust valves. Good luck with the rebuild.

After you posted this tread a guy on dodgeforum posted about the streetfire msd box. I mentioned not needing a rev limiter on our Rams setup. Some other guy gets on there saying he has a 6al and it saved his motor in a camaro or something. I said really how's that work it's not a magical engine break. Well everybody is on there saying about how it sends spark to other cylinders to keep the engine from over revving. I wanted to post a link to this thread and say yup it works keep believing it's gonna save your ass

haha thats funny. I mean it does decrease the "acceleration" of the motor but the speed is still increasing to the point of causing damage.

Either way the car is all done! All the exhaust valves were bent and we had to get new manley race valves to replace the bent ones. I got three seats touched up. Couple P rods were bad too. Most importantly (kind of) since I now have exhaust valve seals my car doesn't smoke anymore. Also I redid the rear main AGAIN with the cheaper rear main seal and used weather strip adhesive and the doesn't leak a drop. i'm sooo releaved to have those two things taken car of.

I also am breaking a new clutch in too. Promotion setup using their hi-clamp PP. Hopefully this one will last.

Now you just need to fix your brand new radio! :p

i did this once going around a really sharp offramp.. tires slid and I hit somewhere around 8k.... My bypass valve sounded like a huge BOV lol...

Amazingly, it didn't hurt anything..
