I have had my starter for a year and a half. The car is now having a hard time starting when its warm. Starter or something else? It starts fine when its cold. the warm start keeps getting worse and worse, it almost didn't start last time.

heat soak. do you have a mini starter? what headers you have? might have to wrap it to shield it from the heat .some people have really good luck and have no heat related issues and some fight it all the time  luck of the draw I guess. also check the condition of the main starter wire but I'm pretty sure she is heat soaked.

Wrap the headers or starter itself. The starter is a replacement from Advacne Auto. They are ceramic BBK shortys.

Thanks for the help!

I took it out and had it tested. The starter is fine. But the top bolt wasnt tightened all the way. Could this be a warm start issue?

no that wasn't the problem and it will no doubt test fine because it is still good. heat soak is a constant heating and cooling cycle that the starter goes through and wears it out eventually. They make wrap, boxes, etc. for this problem. Ford also has a mini starter and another good one is the one from PA performance. If you google starter heat soak you will see tons of topics related to this. Fords, GM's, VW's, etc of various modles have issues. The main cure for our cars is wrap or a mini starter.

I went through this myself this summer and checked my block ground and it was fine, then repalced the main starter cable since it was 18yrs old anyways and still did it. I got the pa perf. mini starter sitting in a box waiting to go in because by the end of the summer after a long drive if I had to stop it crank over so hard I didn't think it would start, the next morning first click started no problem. good thing it wasn't a daily driver. best of luck and make sure to check you starter bolts :nice:
