Bad timing...Er something

Hey, if anyone has any good suggestions...

A couple months back, my 99' GT started acting up. After driving for a while, I tried to pass someone, but when I hit the accelerator the engine fell on its face. It sounded like an old car with timing and distributor problems. The engine wouldn't quickly build RPM, but instead stuttered badly with strong acceleration. I could build RPM slowly, but not past about 4000. I pulled over, and could not repeat the problem in park or neutral (Auto Tranny). I tried to figure out the problem, but check engine light never came on and a scanner didn't pull any codes. I had the problem a couple more times after LONG DRIVES and mainly in HOT conditions, but couldn't figure it out , and it went away

TODAY IT CAME BACK. I thought I could buy some time to try and figure it out through the winter (with cool conditions), but it happened again today after short driving. I figure something is heating up and malfunctioning, but what? At none of these times was the car overheating or at above normal temps (temp at about half way on the gauge).

Any suggestions?

did you advance you timing...if you did maybe you could check were you fueled up when the probleme occured

if not when the cat a clogged it tend to do as you said but it is hard to find
i read about a guys after triing every thing on is card just held the pedals to the floor for a minute or two and finally the cat cought in fire...

I haven't done anything to the timing yet. Everything is stock except magnaflow weld-ins. The car had plenty of gas when it was happening.
Don't think the cat would do it since it only (except today) happens when the car has been driven for a long time (60-70+ miles).
