Drivetrain Bad Trans?

a mechanic I know drove my car bc I told him I've been having trouble getting it into gear lately. he felt the gears and told me right away that my trans is bad. I have a tr3650 in my 96 gt clutch has about 5k miles on it. I'd say about 60-70% of the time I go to shift it's hard to shift but tbe other 30-40% of the time it's buttery smooth shifting. it doesn't matter if the car is cold or warm on or off sometimes it's easy sometimes it's hard. he's 100% it's time to rebuild the trans. what do you guys think? thanks

oh and btw it never wines or grinds or pops out of gear just hard to shift sometimes. but the throwout bearing squeaks in between shifts at times

it disengages pretty close I'd say right before half way
