Well not quite as good as I'd hoped. 15.7@91 mph best.1.1RT(lights were running fast and kept catching me off gaurd) 2.6 60ft.

The auto must go. Guess the first mods will be -

Manual swap
New Gears and LSD
Clutch and Drive shaft
Wheels and DRs
Suspension

Think this can drop 1.5 - 2 secs?


The worst part? My Neon went and pulled a 15.2, and a freind with a B16 civic kicked my butt on the way home.

I must say a bit dissappointed.

At least you know where you stand now. First thing to do is get some 4.10 gears, shift kit, and some drag radials. That ought to get things moving.

Dont ditch the AODE yet...get the gears as mentioned, and throw some pulleys on for under $100..then see how you do!

I don't think you will be dropping 1.5 to 2 seconds, with just the suspension, tranny, and DS etc.

I would not do the swap, i don't think its worth all the money etc., around 1200 or so i would say. I would take that money and pick up a set of used heads, and a used intake for that amount and put the car in the 13's i'd say

I could've got the automatic transmission swapped to a 5spd for $500-$700 from a friend of my brothers. I'm pretty sure you guys know him.. 'BRINGIT' aka Tyler.

To bad I didn't get the car.

My advice is not to go with 4.10s on an automatic transmission, but do go with the 4.10s on the 5spd. I say go with 3.73s on the auto, and if you do get 4.10s on an automatic I am pretty sure you will need a new chip to have it work properly.

That time is pretty much right on for your car I think. Don't toss the auto, for the cost of going to a manual ~$2000 would be my guess (for decent equipment at typical market prices), you could drop a second and a half or so.

I'd say with that much money, you could do:
- 4.10 rearend gear
- intake manifold
- full exhuast
- underdrive pullies
- new roller rockers
- tune

dont be disappointed, your times will only improve. an automatic isn't neccessarily slow, it's just stock autos that are. a properly modified auto will give you all the performance you need. as far as other mods i'd suggest 4.10 gears and underdrive pullies.

fyi: i got my ass handed to me by a civic my first time at the track, but its dang tough to find a street civic than come close to hanging with me now

I've personally seen upwards of 7-8 tenths of a drop in ET in AUTO cars when swapping from 3.08's to 4.10's. Like everyone said, for the cost of the swap, you could do a lot more, or have a killer AODE setup installed with a higher stall and such. The MPH is there, its just you have to get the thing moving out of the hole quicker, and the gears and stall will help that.

I'm guessing you don't have a vert. My first trip to the track stock with a K & N and a set of flowmasters netted a mind boggling 16.2 best. I then went with 3.73's, underdrives, trans go shift kit, etc. and I went 14.8 (I think). There is hope with the automatic. I have proved it can go quickly. I would never go back to a stick car after my experiences with the Art Carr tranny that I installed.

Get the big ones...cobra intake, 4.10, pulleys, shift kit and you'll love your car. Dont do 3.73s on an auto....no way. 4.10s do not use much more gas than stock gears or over 3.73s, the RPMS are in no way at a level that could possibly be considered bad and yes the speedo/odometer will be off but that can be fixed cheaply. The only thing you may need a chip/tuner for is to move the rev limiter up as sometimes you may hit it. But it wont hurt the car and it will still be WAY faster than before.

I just got to the track for the first time in my 94 GT 5spd and my best time was a 15.4, I really think I could have gotten 14s had there not been 35 mph gusts of wind against me, and an extra 200 pounds of weight in the car from pointless junk like a home stereo, spare tire, and messy back seat, and such the like.

I know my next mods will probably be a couple bolt ons like CAI, exhaust, and gears. Then I will see what I can do.

The auto will rob about 15-20% of your power from what I understand, just no getting around it. 4.10 gears would be your best bet with an auto tranny, and did you try shifting it manually? I know this is hard on the tranny, but if you are going for best possible times just try it once or twice and see if it helps.

What RPM are you launching at again? I may have missed that. My strategy was to keep the clutch all the way in and RPMs low, and just before the green I romped the gas and let the clutch go...not to bad the first couple passes, but as the night got colder the tires spun more.
