ball park price on what mint low mile '92 is worth??

I'm "possibly" considering selling my '92 LX as described in the sig below, just trying to get an idea of its worth before i make a hasty decision trying to finish some other projects... anyway its MINT, really mint, 5,400 original miles (yes 5,400, NOT 54,000, and no its NOT rolled past 100k to get back to 5400,this is 5400 ORIGINAL MILES......) the car had 1000 miles put on it when it was bought new in '93 and then it was turned into a project car and sat for about 6 years on stands as the parts were bought little by little and assembled before it was put back on the road in 2000, i put about 700-1100 miles a year on it the past several years since its been on the road. the car has seen rain ONCE in its lifetime (and man did that depress me..),its NEVER seen snow, other than that it sits in the garage under the cover 99% of the time. i havent had it to the race track in over 2 years now..... its got about 25 passes down the strip. its never been crashed, has all the vin sitckers on all the body panels, Alpine sound system, top end of motor is all polished aluminum, etc, runs low 13's granny shifting it on real street tires with 3.55's, definetely more there to be had. All it needs is the hood painted, its still in Gel coat and has been for the past 7 years it has been on the car i just never got around to get somebody to paint it, and since its under the cover all the time i forget about it! just looking for an idea on its worth, i havent had it appraised in about 3 years now so trying to see current value to stang entusiasts.

PS, Please dont PM me wanting to try to buy the car etc, its NOT for sale , just trying to get an idea of its worth in case i decide to sell it in the spring to pay off other projects, not trying to be rude, but the last item i tried to get a value on everybody and there brother PM'd me about it trying to buy it!!!!

Is "worth" relative or perceived ... both or what I've always concidered a car to be worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

For example: I recently looked up the "value" of a '91 LX Coupe, 5.0 5spd with only 10K miles ....... both the nada and blue book guides listed that car for around $2900 .......

You find all the stangs in the country that fit this mold for that dollar and I will buy every single one of 'em!!

Typically I concider a car to be worth a price that most shoppers will pay within a couple of weeks advertising .... I would say your car is probably in the neighborhood of 10-12 grand.

I disagree.
I think 12-13K is way steep.
Although it may be a gem with 5K original, It looks a little too modded for those looking for low milage original stock foxes.
People looking for the "collectors" type cars look for original low milage cars.. I actually think if you swapped it back to all original you would geta a better dollar figure out of it.
Nice car though.

Market value is determined when a buyer and seller reach agreement and consumate a transaction. You'll likely get estimates from $5K to YOUR estimate - which I'm guessing will likely be 3 times that. I guess I'm thinking that, like posted above, those looking for clean original foxes would pay top dollar for something like yours IF it weren't modded. So those buyers likely won't be interested. That means searching for the one buyer out there that's willing to give you what you're willing to accept.

I believe there's likely a buyer out there in the $10K range - but you might have to be patient to find him. And of course, with the published values what they are, it'll be a cash transaction with no financing involved - which limits the buying field even more.

Car looks really nice - good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I think a better question is what do you feel the car is worth or what amount of $$$ would it take for you to part ways with it. It's your blood, sweat, and tears in it for all this time and it does look like real nice.

But as a buyer, I would have to do a price comparison as to what you have, and what I could build for x amount of dollars to compare both in looks and performance. Although a nice clean combination, the engine is pretty much a mild set up that is easily and rather cheaply (in respect to some setups) to duplicate. (Not that that is bad) but as a buyer looking for a nice clean, mildly warmed over low mileage car.. I'd probably give 7000-8000 ish for it if you still had the OEM hood before I would walked away. And most of this price tag to me would be on the condition of the low mileage and the expectation that the body, paint, and interior are in excellent condition more than the engine parts. I personally wouldn't pay top dollar but I wouldn't look to steal it either. I think you would have to find that happy medium in that price range or like Michael Yount said.. be patient.

With the OEM or cowl hood painted to a perfect match it'd be set.. Nice car.. If it were me I may think twice about selling.

$12,000 would be a gift. That car only has 5,000 miles on it. Think about it, how many cars out there are you going to find with that mileage for $12,000? Let alone a car that hasn't been made in 12 years. If he has the original parts, all the changes are not that important. I would love to have a car to work on that is not a greasy mess underneath.

Wow, 7-8k, your freaking kidding me right???? It was appraised at $13500 in '01, the reason i was trying get some ideas on price is that everything i see in the SN classifieds shows cars that guys call "low mileage" cars with 50-60k, thats not really low mile to me seeing as mine has 1/10th of the miles!! anyway i was seeing cars with 50k plus miles with similiar mods listed in the mid teens, i guess those guys are really dreaming then!!

I understand all the "its worth whats somebodys willing to pay theory" however theres also a resoanble range of what the car is really worth, I'm just trying to find that range.

Agreed. If you want to sell it, make your asking price somewhere in the $15, 000 area. At least then you can have more room to bargain without losing a lot of money. $8,000 would make a nice deposit.

7 - 8 is really all it's worth to most people. You've ruined it's value as a "collectible" by modding it as much as you have and most people that would be interested in racing it would want a lot more mods for the money you're thinking about. If it was all original, it's probably a $15,000 car to the right person. When a car gets modded, too many people seem to think their car is worth the total of what they paid for the parts plus the value of the car. That just doesn't happen. In fact, for probably 70% of the people that might be interested in it, it's just the opposite.

I think it is definitely worth more than 10K. I paid 10k for my '87 GT with 3300 miles on it three years ago. the car was 100% original and like new in every way.
I paid that much because it was worth it to me to have an unmolested, no rust , etc. perfect car. It is very hard to find a clean car in my area.
Your car should be worth that much now to the right buyer, even though it is not original. my .02.

Good point. We are in the Northeast here, not on the West Coast where you can find foxes for a lot less.

I follow your thoughts on if it was all orignal, i havent done anything to the car that could not be easily changed back, simply put on a stock upper and lower intake and stock valve covers and the motor would look all stock again, i have the stock stereo, simply plug it in! find a stock hood and its all back original looking. who knows i'll probly just keep it anyway its a real fun car!

Like I said early on in the thread - you're gonna hear stuff all the way from 5K to 15K. Somewhere in there is likely where the market is. If you've had it professionally appraised, what do ya want with our amateur opinions? Good luck if you decide to sell.

it was almost 4 years ago, thats the reason for the post......

i'll probly keep the car, i can say for sure i wont let it go for under $13k, if i decide to sell and cant get that i'll just keep it! i still get a big grin every time i drive it!!!!

actually no i wouldnt, i would think this car with 5000 miles would gain more value ,not loose more in 4 more years....
