Ok guys, I'm in the market for a new oil pressure that I want to install myself. The only thing is I can only find write up on how to install the gauge itself which are great but I have no clue on how to do a good job on wiring. About every write up I read says tap this wire in this fuse for lightning, this one in this fuse, etc.

What I need is common practices in car wiring. Where to find good grounds, where to find power, how to connect it in a clean way and not a ghetto install.

I have some background in electronics being a computer engineer but I never did some in a car.

Just get a sodering iron, some soder, electrical tape, and wire. Then follow the instructions on that writeup and Autometers instructions. It's pretty simple. One wire to a 12v source (use fuse-taps if you don't like splicing factory wiring) one to a ground - the screw you see on the fuse block is a great ground, and the wire to the sending unit.. it's very simple.

solder is the best way to go. but soldering under your dash may be beyond your skill level. to be honest even when ford gives instructions for electrical repairs that require splicing they show butt connectors being used.

for example. the taurus recall that requires new style connector to be installed with a updated brake lamp switch. in this recall they give you 2 butt connectors to us in the kit.

So if you can solder the connections then yeah thats the best, but you can also use butt connectors and it will last for just as long.
