I have a 2003 GT and I'm finally putting some money into it. I want to get a X pipe and a catback system and I'm not worried about headers right now. I have my choices cut down to Bassani or SLP because of their high flow cats. I would rather have cats than an offroad pipe because everytime I get my car inspected they jack it up and look for them (dont know why it has the stock exhaust and its really quiet). What do you all think would be best?

Bassani Great piece, fit and sound are tops. mine has bolt in cats and off road sections--you can run either very easily

SLP is hands down the best quality exhaust made for the mustangs. I have Bassani and sounds great, but if I had to do it again I would go with SLP

Just a question..is there a reason you are counting out Magnaflow? Cheaper than both (that I know of) and I like the sound better with the catted X (high flow cats) and catback. Just my $.02

I used to have a bassani catted x...fit was great. Cat shields came loose and rattled, and it set the CEL but in all honesty nothing to really complain about. Theoretically, all high flow cats should pretty much set the CEL, but some get lucky.

On another note, I have had flowmaster, mac, bassani and slp products on my car, and SLP wins hands down for quality.

Well I have the SLP loudmouth catback and I am getting ready to install a pypes offroad pipe but if you want to save some money then go with SLP, bassani is overpriced

Any sound clips, either your own or online some place of the catted X and Magnaflow standard catback system?

I want to hear if it sounds like my friend's which to me sounds too high pitched compared to mine with the stock H pipe and same Magnaflow catback system.

TIA

Bassani = sounds like sex
SLP = sounds like a garbage truck

You should make your decision based on how it sounds, most all catbacks are going to be the same unless you really must have an SS one, which imo is a waste of money...your paying for a piece of steel pipe with some mufflers welded in...mine as well get weld ins because your not going to see much in the way of hp gains either way

Ive had both setups and ot be honest, the Bassani sounds better, but I LOVE a loud ass car, and well, SLP does a good job of making that happen on the Cobra . The fit on the SLP actually was a bit better than the Bassani, but both are great and can't go wrong with either.
If you want a LOUD, MEAN sound, go with SLP. If you want a bit quieter but a badass TONE, go with Bassani.

If you get the SLP x pipe you can swap out the cats with straight pipes and then put the cats back in when you need to get an inspection. They will bolt in real easy. And then if you want to get longtubes down the road you won't have to buy another x pipe you can use the same one by just unbolting the front pipes and the SLP headers will bolt right in. I would go with SLP. But I'm not sure if Bassani does the same or not. If so I would go with either one.

i have the slp and it is great, but it hangs low. also you cant get the race pipes anymore. i have been trying for a year. they still have them on some sites and actually let you order them. then they call you and say they dont have them anymore. they just forget to take it down.

The Bassani's are great. I have everything from the headers to the tips.

Was running a car show this weekend and we did an exhaust dB contest. My car was the quietest or 2nd quietest of the Mustangs (granted, I was 1 of 3 GT's, and the rest were all Cobra's). That said, they're not quiet by any standards. After I revved my car for the meter, my friends were like "It doesn't make a lot of dB's, but g'damn, it sounds bad ass." Also, I've had 2 people on separate occasions, who were following me for whatever reason, tell me afterwards that my car made their car vibrate at a red light. It's not the volume of it, it's the deep tone.

As for the dB thing... I got 103. The winner got 119. I think it was an error with the meter though... it only measured about every half second. When I revved, I immediately let it fall, so it's likely it simply didn't measure at my peak volume. Meanwhile everyone else just laid into their rev limiter.

Anyway... Bassani's are badass. You'll get a deep rumble at low RPM, and a primal scream at high RPM.

I know you said that you don't want to do headers right now, but I would seriously consider it if I were you. Reason being, if you get a midpipe for stock manifolds now and decide to go longtube down the road you get to buy ANOTHER midpipe. Like you, I opted to keep the stock manis initially and now I have an offroad H sitting in the garage collecting dust thanks to a LT install. Just some food for thought.

both Bassani and SLP X-pipes are modular and come in 5 peices so installing headers later on is not a problem
