Bassani with no cats...

I took my cats out of my Bassani x-pipe about a week ago. I have noticed a drastic drop in low-end torque as well as some in the upper end. I understand that I am gonna loose some in the bottom. I was starting to live with the raspiness and yesterday I was just cruising around on my new FR500s . I dropped it down a gear or 2 to pass a slow-poke in the left lane and outta nowhere a C5 Vette handed me my a$$. At this point my car felt like a slightly modded V6 instead of a V8. I know a n/a Stang can't usually hang with a C5, but this was flat-out embarrassing! :damnit: Has anyone else had this problem going cat-less?

I was born catless, and I love it. I didn't notice any loss of torque.

So you are saying that removing your cats made your car feel like a V6

Cats or no cats, you will get smoked by a vette equally as bad each way

Yes, it feels a lot more sluggish without the cats (no backpressure?).

Like I said I know a n/a Stang can't hang, but what was frustrating was that the thing was feeling underpowered and I couldn't give a fight (pointless or not). My whole point is to see if anyone else has experienced a noticable loss in power when the cats are taken out.

I took mine out a few weeks ago ...defintely didn't lose any power, maybe a little low-end torque but even that was barely noticeable. Probably picked up a few horses in the upper rpms too. And the sound alone is enough to not make me want to put my cats back in

Going into it, that's what I was expecting. I've got my rear O2 sensors turned off and even if I had screwed it up, any exhaust leaks would be downstream from the front sensors so I still don't understand why the loss in power. Something I noticed yesterday...I was attempting a burnout (never a problem before) and as soon as I let out on the clutch the thing fell on its face. The engine felt like it does when the traction control comes on, but it's shut off via Predator.

I got the same feeling from my car when I took out my bassani catted x for an offroad bassani x pipe.The car just felt slugish Im sure it would have ran better with a good tune,but I took it off about two weeks later.I did not like the raspy sound it made.

I gotta agree...the raspy is almost too raspy...sounds like firing an automatic handgun into a coffee can. The car has been grounded due to friggin' snow ALL DAY here in Ohio, so tonight the cats are going back on. Tomorrow should be nice...I'll post the results....

I wonder if it is just the design of the Bassani X pipe that causes the rasp and sluggish feeling ...because my SLP X (different style junction) sounds very clean/smooth and ultimately felt better when I removed the cats

Although it is true that raspyness can vary from company to company...SLP is also known for raspiness...What catback do you have? If it is the SLP LM, As your driving get to around 3k rpm and get off the throttle and let it fall naturally...you'll hear the rasp.

When you took the cats off your Bassani x pipe you just
lost backpressure and lossing too much backpressure is
not a good thing because you will loss low end torque.
When the 2V needs all the torque it can get.What you loss
down low you gain some horses up top.I wouldn't have
took the cats off if I were you but,live and learn.Also it is
illegal to mess with the cats in some states depending on
where you live.You should weld new cats on their and it will
probaly fix the issue.

I have lived and learned...heading out to the garage right now to undo my boo-boo. That's the beauty of Bassani...I'm gonna unclamp the straight pipes that came with the catted x-pipe and put the cats back in. No harm, no foul. Well, except maybe on my arms and neck...

If you havent put the cats back in, you might want to try disconecting the battery for awhile to reset the computer. Never tried this before so dunno if it would help but it's worth a shot.

Update: after the cats went back in, she runs like a champ again! It has to be the backpressure (or lack thereof)...

What design are the Bassani mufflers? I'm not familiar with them, but maybe they contributed to your torque loss after going catless. Are they straight through? From my experiences, chambered mufflers seem to provide just enough backpressure with an O/R mid pipe. But anyway, I'm glad to hear you fixed your problem.

PLEASE tell me u have a vid/sound clip of your setup. I want to hear how loud the Street Comp. Catback is with the O/R Bassani X-Pipe.
