We removed the negative cord and tapped it on the post and it was making an arc. I was told it's not supposed to be doing that. This is the best way to find a draw. Set your meter to amps and hook it in series to the negative battery post and see what your reading is. Keep in mind that if you have a door or trunk open or if you have a light under the hood, it will be drawing some current and will even cause that spark you see when you hook up the battery cable. Then pull fuses one by one until you find what circuit the draw is on. Once you get that far, it can be easy to locate and fix the source of the draw or it can be an absolute bitch. One thing to check is to disconnect the plugs to the alternator and check for a draw with it disconnected. I have had more than one ford alternator in my time that had some kind of internal short and it will pull the battery down in no time.Dr_EluSivE said:charge it up, then pull a fuse, then check it, and if that doesnt work, pull the next fuse. Not necessarily. A guy on SCCOA has an 86 Mustang he threw the 3.8SC in. He said the 3.8 block is very similar to the 5.0 block and it drops right in. The previous owner bought it brand new back in January. I'm going to take it back to Wal-Mart later and get another one. I just had the alternator tested today and it's only putting out 8 amps and 13-16 is normal so I guess I'll have to be getting a new alternator tooWannabe2.3T said:how old is your battery?
