Battery or Alternator...im new at this

I was driving around yesterday and coming to a stop..my car dies and the AMP light comes on, so i started it back up...started normally, then after about 5 mins. it does it again.....THEN pulling into my driveway..it does it AGAIN! would that be the battery or the alternator.

I had that happen when my Capri's alternator went...also happened in my probe and that time it was the battery, so really either or. You need to get a volt meter on the battery to see if it's reading 12V's
