I have an 86 Mustang. Last year, I bought an Optima Red Top and it would not fit. The battery was too big. I know a few of my friends have Optima's, and they fit no problem. The guy at the battery place told me that my battery tray was too small. Can I put a battery tray from a 87-93 into my car without having to do any modifications to make it fit?

Why not relocate it to the back?? Costs a little more, for cables and such, takes a little longer. Being an Optima, you dont have to worry about the venting, since the the batt doesnt give off fumes, a sealed batt. Dont know what they will say at the track ( if you run at the track ), just have to find out whats required and if your exempt because of the type batt, some tracks also require a batt shut off switch.. But it cleans up your engine compartment, plus takes a little weight off the front end and puts it to the back....... Just another option to think about.... As far as swappin batt boxes, couldnt tell ya.....
