I'm finally going to get around to installing the upper and lower torque box reinforcement on my 85 GT. Is this a very difficult installation? Or should I have a shop do it? I prefer to do all the work on the car myself but don't have a welder. A couple shops have given me quotes but I feel they are a little pricey for what looks like a installation thats not to tough. I'm thinking of bolting them in and taking the car to a welder and having him finish the job. Am I bitting of more then I can chew? Also, can someone give me a couple companies that make good reinforcements?

You don't weld them in, they bolt in. If you bought a cheap basic kit, then all you do it remove the lca nut in the tq box, slide the reinforcement box in, put the nut back on and mark the holes and drill them. Then under the back seat you put the plate in and bolt it all down.

If you bought the kit from Rick 91GT, then the install is the same minus an extra plate he includes since his are a better design than the copy cat junk ones you find on ebay.

I understand that I bolt them in. However, all I have read about the installation is they should also be welded. Doesn't sound to tough for the lower install, maybe the uppers might be difficult. Tried to PM Rick91GT but his mail box is full. Also set an E-Mail to his business and personal addresses but no reply. I noticed on his web page that he sells the kits in Stainless Steel. Now if I could just get a price.

Mine are bolted and welded in. Can't hurt, can it?

Anyway, the lowers are easy. Doesn't take much effort to put them in, just a little time. The uppers were a PITA. Still not hard, just a paint ot get everything lined up right and setup. BTW, I would recommend two people when it comes time to tighten them down -- it will be a lot easier.
