Recently installed the BBK #15940 1 3/4" LT Ceramic Headers. After about two weeks driver-side bank blew thru the gasket on the top-side, all four ports.

Anyone else have any fit issues w/the 1 3/4" BBK's? The 1 3/4's are less than 1/16th to port edge different from the 1 5/8's, possibly I just got a bad gasket, or we bent them at install, er something.

They sound absolutely great. Replaced shorties and they're quieter at idle, not so damn tinny sounding through the whole range, and are at their best when you romp on it... great sound fer sure! Running w/ BBK X-Pipes and Flowmasters...

got the same set-up hope to god you didnt use the cardboard gaskets bbk sends with em...............get some fel-pro gaskets drop em back down scrape the block with a razor to get all the carbon off (they need a 100% flat surface to seal) or it will blow put the far 2 end bolts in first(they keep the gasket from shiftin) the the middle then work your way out but...................always tighten the bolts from the center out......i blew about 2 sets..........reving the **** outta the motor cause i loved the sounds....i havnt heard my exhasut combo in almost a year...... but when it is done with afr 185cc heads 500 deg cam and a blower i think it will be worth it.........................

DOH! Yep, I did use the gaskets supplied by BBK. And, though I hung them from the ends, I'm sure I didn't tighten from center out. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

Is there a fel-pro made for this particular header? Remember a number er something?

Again, thanks dude!

How involved was the install and how much did they set you back? I was thinking about ditching my shorties some time this year, but not until it cools down a bit.

Thanks-

I have a garage with lift and air tools, had to move the steering out of the way, up from bottom driver side, removed starter, MAS and inlet tube, loosened right motor mount and drop down from top for right side. Whole thing was about 3 hours at an easy pace, not as bad as it sounds... with a lift.

I found the fel-pro gasket #MS90000 for 5.0's. Which copper gasket r u using? Make and model # if you recall?

I bought the headers from JEGS, about $430.

Thanks again!

I just installed the same BBK ceramic longtubes today without a lift and it went pretty smooth, GAWWD I wish I had a lift and air tools though! I still have the BBK X pipe to install and gotta still weld flanges onto my catback so everything will bolt up nice and neet, so I havent heard the damn things yet. Man they look soooo awsome in the engine bay and especialy under the car!.

OK, more info today.

The engine exhaust port ID is 1.25" X 1.48". The BBK #15940 1.75" headers have a tube ID of 1.50" X 1.75" at flange.

The Mr. Gasket CopperSEAL gasket has an ID of 1.25" X 1.75", but with a rigid bead along the ID there's not enough material to trim back and open the 1.25" width without comprimising the strength of the gasket. Scratch Mr. Gasket...

The Fel-Pro #1487 gasket has an ID of 1.42" X 1.62", which leaves only about 0.04" in width each side and 0.065" in height each end for a perfect fit. As the manifold port is 1.25" X 1.48" this gasket won't restrict exhaust flow and should make a very good seal.

Ordered them today, will install tomorrow afternoon, and reply with a final report.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I'll have to look at that next time, good tip. The steering shaft is just one bolt and it swings easily out of the way.
