BBK Long tube header install problem

I have a 95 gt convertible. I am working on replacing the headers with BBK long tubes. I got both headers into the general area fine, and the passenger side header bolted. The problem is with the driver side header. It is hitting the convertible support bar. If I raise the engine, it will clear that bar and allow me to bolt it on, but then the header will support the engine.
Right now I have the support bar loosened so that I could bolt up the header.
My only ideas right now would be to dent the header a little to allow clearance or to cut a little groove out of the support bar to give it the clearance it needs.

That is a quick drawing of it. The circle is where the header and support hit. Most of the supports strenth appears to be from the basic X type structure.

What would be the best way to get the header in?

Man I have a vert and I am going to do this install in a few weeks and have been reading up on a lot of installs and this is the first I have heard of this. Let us know what you figure out.

I am in the EXACT same boat. I have a 95 GT vert, and i will be installing my LT's in a day or so. I will most likely run into this problem myself. Someone help us please!!

well I have my long tubes on my 94 convertible but Im not telling.. Its so easy to figure it out. I will give a hint, cuss a lot then you'll figure it out.

Oh man, you are soooooo mean!!!!!!!

The box in the middle is the square section that sits underneath the oil pan, which has a hold in the square so the oil will drain through it. The 4 bars extend outwards, just like the drawing shows. I don't know what the heck to call this thing. I guess you would call it a subframe?

I assume from the drawing that the header is going to hit one of the side bars.

Everyone said that to install the LT's, you will need to disconnect the motor mounts & jack the motor up a few inches. This will allow the header to be installed. Then slowly lower the motor & make sure it won't hit the bar.

It shouldn't hit the bar. It may look that way, but once you finish it, everything should fit fine.

These LT's are for a 94-95 GT Vert, right? If not, you will definately have some fitment issues that will require welding/sawzalling <--

I had to raise the engine to get the headers on there. The problem is that when I lower the engine, the header will be resting on top of the support beam and will just hold the engine up. I've tried everything I can think of to get the header around that beam.

And these headers are for 94-95 mustangs. I have never seen any headers made specifically for a vert.

If anyone knows how to get the header to fit around that support, please help me.

I have talked to several people who couldn't get BBK longtubes to fit on a vert, because of exactly the problem you are describing. So it may be that mere cussing will not solve your problem -- may have to go with a different brand of longtubes.

I had to take off the x brace, cut the brace, that was in the way, off -- and then weld it back on a little farther toward the middle.

i may not have a vert but i have those headers just tkae the brace off and clearance it to fit around the header that brace can't do that much

okay the way I did it is I cut that bar going across and weld it up a little more. Problem solve! I also hammer some stuff down too, so good luck.

I have BBK LTs on my '95 vert and found the easiest solution. Take the stupid thing off and leave it off. You will not notice a difference.
