I had The Skunk out for a roll yesterday afternoon, parked it on Broadway right outside Julia's (in the yellow zone, which no one ever figures out is FREE on Sundays) and my wife and I got a nice seat on the sidewalk cafe right next to it, put back a few drinks, and watched people walk by and crane their necks at the car.
Two beat cops came down the street and were magnetized right to it. "Oh, s---," says my beautiful bride. "Yeah," I said, "I'll go talk to 'em." They were peering into the cut-out on the hood, and commenting to each other.
"It's my car, officer," I said as I walked up to them. "That intake is legal; it's not a pollution-controlled vehicle."
"Oh, I know," he said, "I have a Roadrunner with dual quads. You never see these anymore. I was checking out the linkage. Do you run mechanical or vacuum secondaries?"
We stood there, bulls----ing about cars for about ten minutes with the hood up. Beautiful afternoon.
