Been busy doing something I have NEVER done...I built my own PC. I owe a lot of thanks to people on my local mustang board for tips/ideas/part selection but in the end I am super excited and happy.
Old setup circa 2000-2001 HP pavilion with a 1.4ghz AMD athlon processor, 128mb of SDRAM, 40gb HD. Not bad back in 01-ish time but REALLY showing its age.
I built a PC to eventually move over to a dedicated HTPC or Home Theater PC. I will build another computer in a few years or less for computing/internet.
Anyway the new PC is -
Motherboard is a Gigabyte MA78GM-sh2 with on board ATI graphics card full HD 1080p with HDMI output and fiber optic audio out that can handle up to 7.1 HD sound. This board has TONS of extras...5 internal SATAII hookups, firewire, external SATAe hookup and other things. Plus it will run the quad core phenom (sp?) AMD processor so I can upgrade the hell out of it down the road for at least the next few years when those come down.
Processor is a AMD Athlon 64 bit 4850e 2.5ghz dual core.
2 1gb corsair ram sticks - motherboard excepts up to 4 4gb (16gb total
)
and an 80gb WD harddrive running XP professional.
I hope to add a dual layer blu-ray player, either a 500gb or 1tb external HD, and a video card or two as to make my own DVR down the road slowly.
DAMN IS THIS THING FAST. I am hooking it up to the TV this weekend and going to watch some on demand Netflix and Hulu.
Anyway just excited to have a fairly quick pc and something to hook up to the tv to watch movies online with. I know some video guys and new HD tv guys may get a kick out of this build/project.
