We call it beer pong.

but then again, we play with shot glasses and hard alcohol. the girls use the keg cups and beer.

whats even funner is vodka fooler checkers. use shot glasses for chess pieces, fill half with water and half with vodka. when you jump your opponent, they take a shot and have to hold their nose(so they dont smell the vodka before shooting, which is alot easier than knowing what it is before it goes down the hatch).

Maybe we should get the 94-95'ers together. We already have the teams set. The Beer Ponger's vs. The Beirut's.

Its beer pong fool! Me and my roomate are undefeated at beer pong too. I think we should, lets just have a 94/95 getogether somewhere and have a mini car show/ swap meet during the day then play beer pong and get wasted at night, this is an awesome idea.

speaking of Beiruit...

have you guys been following the oil spill at all??

It's claimed to be larger than the exxon valdez spill...and there's being no cleanup action taken because of a lack of cease fire in the region. pretty ****ed up...

major news networks suck ass!

oh...and yes, we should all meet, admire one another's cars, and then get really loaded and pitch tents in a parking lot

Some "local" rules:

3. Cups must be re-arranged after one is hit.

I dont like this rule... then the game is more luck than skill. all you do everytime is throw at the center and hope it goes in. we play you get a rerack at 6 cups and again at 3. but hey EVERYBODY has their own rules.
BTW we used to play this a ton but when you turn 21 you just say screw it and go to the bar.

I've always known it as Beiruit (for the no-paddle reason). It was the unofficial game of my college.

I'm waiting for Black95GTS to back me up on this one.

There is no doubt that you are correct sir . Beirut (or just simply "root" for short) is the name of the game. At WPI, our collective alma mater, beer pong is played with paddles on an actual ping pong table. Beirut can be played on a normal table.

My fraternity has both setups, and both games do get played. We also play a lot of beer die, which is much harder and involves 4 players, 4 12 ounce glasses of beer, and a 6 sided die. I won't even attempt to explain the rules, except long throws and spectacular catches are required. This pretty much precludes girls from playing as they typically can't catch nearly as well as guys. Beer die is usually played earlier in the night during the pre-game before going out and trying to catch some ***.

Beer pong is also rarely played, as it gets messy fast with people hitting cups of beer with paddles. So my question to all you "beer pongers" out there, if the name isn't beirut, then what do you call the game involving ping pong paddles on a ping pong table if not beer pong?

When I first played everyone called it Beirut. Then I tried to get some other friends to play and they never heard of it. Down here most people call it beer pong. The rules seem to vary with everyone you play with. Re-racks are only done if asked for when there are 6 and 3. Bouncing does not count as double. If you land the ball in the same cup your partner did before the other team pulled it (if they get backed up) they must drink +1 and you get the ball back. Redemption is argued upon constantly some people play with it some don't, then some play that winning the redemption does not mean you win the game it means your force the game into an overtime. I find it best to talk to everyone who will be playing that night and set the rules ahead of time because there seem to be so many little rules that get picked up here and there that some people have never heard of.

I agree with you. the house rules around me is NO RERACKS at all get some talent and hit them cups your trying to hit. We dont Blow/ Finger or any of that. No Bouncing get some skill and shoot a ball. we dont grab the cups intill both teamates shoot then you pull the cups they made if you made the same cup its 3 cups.

Why play games,just drink.
I never played any stupid drinking games when I was young, neither did anyone else I knew at the time.

I`ve never heard the terms Beirut or Beer Pong before.

we call it beer pong, I have NEVER seen anyone play it with paddles.

to those that dont play it- not only underage kids play it, most do, but I know many many people at school over 21 that play it and have their own customized tables and stuff. And while just drinking is straight to the point, beer pong brings fun, skill, and the attention of everyone watching, and if you suck really bad you get wasted faster, and hell, Im usually drinking a beer while playing anyway just so I can get wasted, honestly its pretty fun.

Its called beirut because its supposed to symbolize when they dropped bombs on beirut, lebanon....hence the balls thrown into cups...

why didnt they just call it dropping bombs or something then? to call it beirut because of a resembelance to bombs dropping makes it sound like whoever named it that was trying way too hard to get laid or something, beer pong makes more sense, and its simpler. A game called beirut should consist of running around the backyard with your friends shooting bottlerockets at eachother or something along those lines.

It's a totally different game with the paddles. Different rules, there is no triangle setup, cups on the corners, sips for hits, chugs for getting it in the cup, etc. It's very hard and lasts forever and usually you don't get drunk, hence it rarely gets played. Plus not many people have a ping pong table that they don't mind getting beer spilled on.

And beirut is fun because GIRLS love it and its a sure fire way to get females to chug booze. Its easy to hit on your teamate. Beirut is no doubt responsible for numerous collegiate hookups. Flip cup also works well for this.
