My 89 LX has messed up alignment. It is all stock. It pulls hard to the left. I was told that my K-member may be bent. Could this be true? Is a K-member bolted in or welded in? What parts should I check that could be worn/bent throwing off my alignment?

Thanks for any replies as I have been dealing with this for some time. I love driving my Mustang but between the alignment and the grinding 2nd gear it is getting to be no fun

i dont think its possible to mess up the stock k meember w/o some serious frame damage or accident. that thing (stock) is strong! more likely the a arms, maybe a strut, or most likely bushings. thats what i waould check first, bushings.

If it were a tubular k-member then yes however stock is very strong. K-members are bolted in. lol about 2nd gear syncro's going. that happens to us all. get your self a aftermarket tranny. something that will stand up to abuse. TREMEC

i hit a alder tree head on at 45 or 50 and the k-member, did not need to be replaced, however the strut tower(s) may be out of whack, do you now the accident history, or even running over a curb or somthing may have tweaked it, mine was'nt right before the wreck, really not sure what caused the strut tower to bend,(at first,i am sure it was worse after the wreck)by the way the car lived, now doing a motor swap

could have hit a pot hole and bent a tie-rod or something. did the alignment shop say you could have bent it? those stock k-members are beefy as hell...i just dont see it getting bent without your car being, at the very least, totalled. and if it was totalled, you wouldn't be driving it and you would have never asked this question

my car is pulling to the left also. i went to check the air in my tires and the front left one was low. I began filling air unaware that there was a hole in the hose near the pump so when i thought the air was being pumped in it actual was letting all the air out at the hole. I drove what i thought would be a short distance to the gas station across the street with a flat but the first three gas stations i went to all had broken hoses. i had to drive with the wheel turned pretty hard to the right for about 5 minutes. Well i got two new tires on the front of the car and now it wants to pull to the left slightly. I am thinking that my alignment is off from driving with a damn near flat tire. Why anyone would get there jollys off of breaking a gas station air pump is beyond me!!

I guess its not my K-member

The suspension components look good to me. I was thinking I could have a worn or bent tie rod allowing the driver side wheel to toe in and out a little bit while cruising. It pulls to the left hard usually, but sometimes it pulls to the right instead.

I have replaced the struts and springs on the car to no avail. One alignment shop wanted to grind the strut adjuster holes out but I refused to allow this. I would rather get the Caster Plates. I am just afraid to drop a lot of money on them and still have the problem.

My carfax is clear but I have a friend that has access to some sort of insurance database and it came up that it was stolen once. I already knew this because it has a salvage title. It was stolen and the front end and interior was stripped so it was sold as salvage in 1994. I don't trust Carfax because my carfax is totally clear on this vehicle despite the fact that it is a recovered theft and has a salvage title.
