Best dealer rip-off story yet

The local Ford dealership is about 2 minutes from my office, so I headed over after lunch today as I still have not seen one of these cars up close.

They had a red GT, loaded. Auto, grey leather, Shaker 1000, IUP. Stickered right around 28-29 if memory serves. I was expecting to see some sort of markup on the sticker, and wasn't disappointed.

So if you plan on buying at Gwinnett Place Ford in Duluth GA, you'll probably have to haggle just to get a reach-around. I was hoping a salesman would show up (haven't had the pleasure of verbally abusing anyone lately) but with BS tactics like that I'm sure they know better than to approach anyone who looks like they have half a clue about cars. If I had written "SUCKER" on my forehead in red lipstick maybe I could have gotten some attention.

I also live in Georgia

I went to the dealership in Tucker and saw a blak mustang GT with red leather interor for 29,000-30,000 which is really crazy it didnt have the upgraded sound system in it.

Tell the dealer that you are a "Limited Edition" customer who only buys at invoice.

Over on Brad's site, there are a couple of car salesmen who said that some dealers are trying to not sell a car by marking them up like that. The explanation is that having an '05 sitting out front or in the showroom is an attention getter and builds traffic for the dealership. Even at MSRP, Mustangs aren't sitting on the lots for very long right now. In order to make sure it sits there at least until they get a few more on the lot, they'll mark it up that high. If they should happen to find someone who's got to have the car so bad they're willing to pay that price, then so much the better for the dealership.

And then there are dealerships that are just plain greedy!

Take that for what it's worth since it came from a car salesman.

I figured that is what they are doing at a lot in Auburn, AL. Have V6 05's going at 23 to 34 grand. They have 1250.00 and some have 995.00 dealer installed options on them. But they don't tell you what those options are. They have had a red one for about 3 weeks now.

That's probably illegal. If the dealer adds anything to the price of a vehicle above factory sticker, they have to tell you what the extra charge is for, even if it's just "market adjustment"

This dealer sounds like a rip-off whore. I'd go elsewhere.

If you live in ATLANTA

georgia buyers....if you want no hassle straight-shooting dealer, call Tim Choquette at Billy Howell Ford in Cummins (exit 13 off 400 I believe). They sell at sticker, ordered or stock, "until demand slows or supply grows". It only took me 41 days from order to delivery on my GT 5-spd w/IUP and spoiler. It was a no-nonsense experience, which for me, was worth the price of admission.
That said- watch out for the finance guy-he tried to sell me a warranty that was non-factory for $1500 and claimed three times that it WAS a Ford warranty when I questioned him....I researched it and of course it wasn't. I didn't buy it

I finally went to check out a few new ones sitting here at a local dealer and they're marking them up $3000 ... screw that. I really want one, but I guess I'll wait 'til spring when the prices come down.

Team Ford in Marietta is also doing a $1000 markup. I figured I would try a little math with them. If they build 100,000 GT's and it is considered limited edition and it constitutes a $1000 mark up, then that should make my Cobra worth something like $225,000 because of it's limited production. They didn't bite when I said that's what I wanted for a trade in price...lol.....oh well...

I am sure if I talked to a salesman I could find out what it is, they just have some code listed next to the dealer installed option on the window sticker. But I hate going to car lots when they are open, salesmen in general can be a major pain.

I plan on getting mine in Birmingham so I can get the D plan from my Brother-inlaw and not have to worry about being hassled.

Having an additional charge listed with a code instead of a clear explaination of the charge tells me that the dealer is a slime ball. If they were really adding somethign legitmate, why whould they be hiding it. They can tell 3 different customers 3 different things as to what that charge is for.

If a salesman approaches customers and expects them to believe some BS lie about a production line GT being a "special edition" worth 10 grand more, then he probably deserves whatever earful he gets.

The comment was half tongue-in-cheek anyway. Guess what, I wasn't actually planning on writing SUCKER on my forehead in red lipstick, either.
