This is my first 4.6 car. Its 5 speed. I mainly run 1/8 mile. It is daily driver. Ive heard that these cars do good with 4:10. Is 4:30 to much to daily drive? Is 4:10 to much? Any info would be great. I had a 4:10 in my 94 but it was auto and it had big stall but with AODE it didnt do to bad on the street. Thanks for the help guys.

I personally do not have any aftermarket gears, but if you do a search, you will see that most guys on here will run anywhere from 3.73's to 4.10's. Just depends on how much fuel milage you are willing to sacrafice and what future mods may be.

If you don't have to face snow/ice, I'd go with the 4.10's. 3.73's like I have are good, but I can see no harm in the 4.10's.

I put 3:73's in my 95 GT and now that I bought my 00 GT with 4:10's I know what I was missing. I still get 20 mpg on the highway. Go 4:10's you'll love it!!!!

If these are going in that Crown Vic you mentioned in that other thread, do 4.30s. With the auto and that tank of a car, it works out well. Especially if you only run the eighth mile.

Im putting them in my 96 GT Shiroelex. That Crown Vic I spoke of is totaled from the rear. There is snow and ice where I am but the car will never see it. Why do 4.6s like such low gears?

I got 4:30's in a cobra, but cobra's like to rev at higher rpm's so it might be overkill for your GT - if you are running the 1/8 then I'd say 4:10, but I went from 4:10's to 4:30's and as far as MPG goes it's all about how much you like to play around town - I can baby my 4:30's and get 20+mpg with a cobra, but I can also play around and get about 5 mpg so it's really all about your discipline if you want to talk gas mileage! I think I can still do about 80 MPH on the highway and keep it under 3,300 rpm's which is key for cobra's and gas mileage - beyond that you have the engine running balls out and gas mileage suffers. I had a 3:73 in my 1996 saleen gt with little mods and it was fun around town so you can't go wrong either way...
