I am looking for a programmer that will raise my shift points, increase shift firmness, allow me to adjust for steeper gears, run an off-road x or h-pipe, and provide and increase in horsepower via advanced timing. What is really the difference between the diablosport predator, hypertech, superchips, and sct tuners? What would make me want to choose one over the other, and where are the best places to purchase each of these from (i.e. who has the best prices?)

best is too subjective.
I suggest finding a local tuning shop that is good and use whatever they support.

they say Tim over at modular powerhouse is the best tuner for the mustang, so he can hold your hand while its tuned....

seriously, its a long debate... its preference really. diablo works, so does SCT. the only reason to go SCT over diablo is apparently SCT actually provides updates of some kind, diablo does not... other then that, same.

I like SCT. Tough to say, but SCT seems to have more better reviews.

SCT has more features and is upgradeable to a full blown tuning package. the Preditor is not bad, but the Xcal2 is much better.

The real deciding factor is the SCT Xcalibrator2 gives you the capability to adjust your part throttle and WOT shift points. The Diablosport Predator only lets you tweak WOT shift points.

The other key difference is that the SCT Xcalibrator2 lends itself to upgrading to a full blown tuning package called the PRP. The Predator doesn't have this upgrade path. This only matters if you think you might get into tuning beyond the basic end user options.

Everything else is subjective and about a wash.
