In short, my harmonic balancer is toast and I need another one. What is a good one for the money? I'm looking at some on summit racing, since there usually pretty quick about getting here. Heres a link at what I'm looking at.

What would be the best balancer for a h/c/i 302?

Thanks a lot.

It depends on what you can afford and what your looking to do with the car. My friend just replace his with brand new stock one. But me on the other hand since I drag race the car went with an SFI unit. If the car is going to be more street driven then another stock one will be good enough.

Ceck out the "professional products" line of sfi approved balancers. I got mine with the spacer for $80 new. You might have to look around a little for that deal though.

Define "Best for the Money"......does that mean the best you can buy, or the best you're able to afford? If money isn't an object, I'd look into a Fluidamper or Innovators West balancer for the best there is.

I wasn't aware that Fluidyne was making harmonic balancers.

If I could choose any balancer personally, it would be a Romac. However, my last one was a Pioneer SFI unit, and I think it's a very nice piece. For a non-SFI piece, a standard Pioneer would be my choice as well.

Many folks (as noted) like the PP units as well.

Good luck.

I have this one. It's a nice piece for the price, and you can change it to a 28oz if you had to by switching out the counter weight.

I think he means fluidampr not fluidyne. IMO you get what you pay for. When buying an SFI balancer you are paying for that rating and technology. Buying an 80 dollar SFI balancer and spacer is probably just as as good as an 80 dollar non SFI balancer. Buy what you can afford without going overboard.

I just put the non-sfi Pioneer in mine. $65 at Advance.

If you're going non-sfi, I still wouldn't go back to stock. That's the entire reason we've all had to change balancers in the first place.

I got this one from Summit. It looked nice when I bought it last summer, but it's starting to get some surface rust on it now.

I love my romac. Your balancer does a pretty damn important job. I wouldn't put a half assed one on.

I'm looking at a new balancer also. Not to get away from the original posters' question but is it a sign of needing replacement when a balancer wobbles?

Umm, yeah...

Unless the crankshaft is bent. Then you have bigger problems.

I have the Professional Products non-SFI, I think it was about $80 to $100 bucks locally. It seems to work just fine. The finish still looks nice and it definately smoothed out my engine a tiny bit compared to the stocker which was starting to separate at the rubber...
