Check this out, there are alot of myths about oil, FYI, I will never put seafoam in my engine, was skeptical when I first heard about seafoam. The seafoam may work too well in the engine oil.

2000 miles on synthetic?
You're wasting a lot of oil. I'd say 5000 miles is a short interval between changes for synthetic... I run it for about 7k miles. I used to run my Camaro on Castrol dino oil for 4000 miles in between changes. Bought that car with 95k miles and sold it 6 years later with 185k miles... only problem with the car was a leaky water pump gasket.each his own I would like to change at 2,000 but sometimes its 2,500 but with gas going up everyday & at $17 a jug its a cheap fix even though I have passed the 150,000 mark it sounds new ...... I have a friend who never changes his oil he just doest care to me its so easy why not if you save a few MPG & keep everthing clean inside to me its worth it , just heard gas will be up 40 cents by summer ..... I try & keep ahead of most car parts before they go bad I plan on keeping this 1999 GT Convert another 5 years , I had it up on the lift & cleaned & sprayed any slightly rusty parts with that rust stop paint then undercoat so she looks good under the body also ......

I have always used Valvoline, and like Mobil 1. I never tried Royal Purple, I always thought is was the best the way these car/truck shows on TV advertise it. Whats the issue with Royal Purple, glad to know that I didnt waste my money on it.

He will care when the sludge build up kills the engine....I usually give my cars oil changes every 3 months...I use to drive alot of Interstate and I couldnt do 3k miles, and even though now they push the 3k miles, if you look in most owners manuals, if you drive majority of interstate you can bump it up to 5-7k miles(although I dont think I would go as high as 7k)...in 3 months I usually drove my old car about 5k miles, My mustang would probably not even see 3k miles in 3 months as I now work from home.
Also people that use seafoam in engines, a newer vehicle it probably wont hurt, but you put it in a car 20 years old, sometimes that sludge buildup actually seals leaks, so its not uncommon after running that in an older vehicle for oil to start to leak after a few uses. I have read that a number of times so I guess the seafoam really does work at getting the carbon/sludge out of the engin.

2002 GT with 81K miles I run Amsoil with their filter which they say has 25K or 12 month change interval (with their oil and filter they also guarantee your motor). First time I ran about 15K and could not take it any more so I changed it, oil still looked like new oil. I had to add 1/2 quart every 5K though. When I had the MHS Stage 2 Cams put in the Mechanic who works on or tunes almost every Mustang running at Virginia Motor Sports said it was the cleanest engine he every worked on. Ran Mobil 1 prior to that.

i used to run valvoline vr 1 racing oil in my 5.0... it seemed to be a pretty good oil..heard good things about amsoil but dont know anything about them from experience...

I run Mobil 1 with Mobil 1 oil filters and have been for over 20 years. Oil changes are around 8-12K depending on what it looks like and what's convenient. I have run all my engines to between 185k and 250K and have never seen an issue.
On my stang with the blower, I typically change between 3K-5k with mobil 1 depending on racing. If I don't race, I didn't have to add oil. If I had any road track time, I ususally had to add a quart because a bunch of oil gets sucked into the blower from the intake.
In the future after the next rebuild, I may change to Castrol Synthetic with Mobil 1 oil filters.

their is no reason to make such a big deal about oil. just go with a proven brand, and not the dollar store special and it will be ok. I have never seen an engine fail because one person used pennzoil and the other used mobil 1. I myself use castrol, it keeps the car running....that's all i need.

I totally disagree. On a forum like this I think it is good to endlessly debate and discuss even the most minor nuances of oil choice, plug choice, mod choices, etc.
Only through debate and discussion can one learn from the experiences of others...
You are correct in just keeping the oil clean with a brand product. I'm looking to see how many miles I can get out of vehicles. Unfortunately one was stolen and the other was wrecked or I would have more data. I have 180K on my Windstar and 170K on my E150 van with the 4.6L engine so it will be interesting to see what happens. Both of them are on Mobil 1.
