better looking auto shifter?

I have the old B&M Street Stick (anyone remember those???) The Hammer is a ratchet type shifter and this Street Stick is a gate type. Since I have a full manual valvebody, I can now make use of it. Too bad B&M stopped making them because my brother had a Hammer in his old '92. I've driven both and like the one I have.

Its pretty funny that people who have the crappiest manual tranny Ford ever shipped (TR3650) are criticizing the great 4R70W :rlaugh:

I would kill for a 4R70W in my Cobra, I really miss it (no I will not swap with you)

I tell you I would trade someone for a TR3650 any day of the week. I hate the auto. :D

jmod and trans cooler go in Monday and 4.10 gears are here just waiting to get an appointment.

Arent you supercharging you car and doing alot of other stuff to it too?

If so sell the 4.10s and get the 3.73s. Im swaping my 4.10s out next week will be shifting into OD if I don't.

Also who does your installs or do you do them your self?

The very fact that they want to trick people into thinking it's an auto tells you something.

What the hells that supposed to mean? Just because we want it to look better doesn't mean we want people to think its a 5 spd.

The blower is already on, boost pipe, h pipe, plenum and tbody in the garage to finish it up. I am definatly going with 4.10s. I dont care about the track so I dont care where it shifts to OD. I just want it to be more fun to drive around town.

Honestly even with the t-trim making good power (325 through an auto with just a Bassani CB) I am not happy with it. It still feels really slow.

I would have went KB 2.1L if I did it all over, but I am not willing to start over.

As for installs, I had some 3.90s installed in an old 98 GT by Exotic Performance Plus and htye did an awesome job. Definatly going there for the gears again. I am having the cooler and jmod done at BC automotive outside of Indy. Supposedly the best guy for ford autos.

Brenspeed did the blower install, I tweeked the MPH tune on my own with my dynojet wideband.

Since you wont be taking it to the track youll be alright I was just trying to save you some money if you were going to be hitting the track. The 4.10s are awsome with the Vortech, you might want to look into some BFG or MT DRs.

Also if your looking for a guy in Ft Wayne to install ANY thing for you for cheap, PM me. He has saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars and he does great work, he does things after hours so it may take alittle longer but you will save some $$.

I gotta say, after fully rebuilding the slush box - I love my 4R70W, and though my next car will def be a 5-speed/6-speed i would never install a manual in my stang now. I dont think i even know anyone in person that can shift faster from 1-2 than my 4R does now, it's like someone came out from behind you and slapped you upside the head...then it's over. w/ a 3200 stall and a jmod or shift kit + mass cooling, the 4R70W really can lay the power down right, never thought i'd see 1st to 3rd roasting in my car untill now.

you really do need to keep the revs down for the auto on the 1/4, you can't go into overdrive at WOT and w/ 4:10's and a blower it sounds like that's what you're looking at. You're going to be looking at a mangled stub/input shaft

Im not going to the track with it so as I said I dont care if it would shift into OD running the 1/4.

It’s very hard on the transmission to be shifting into O/D at wide open throttle when you’ve added that kind of power on tap. Overdrive is applied via "band", not a set of clutches like the other forward gears…..so keep that in mind if the longevity of your transmission means anything to you.

he's right, i was just giving the 1/4 as an example. IF your driving on the free way, need to pass someone or put them to shame and floor it it'll shift into 3rd then if ur still on it as you likely will be it'll be shifting into OD at WOT or w/ a S/C wont even need to be WOT. Your really do screw $hit up - proly the biggest downside to the 4R70W besides ford's cooling plan

I appreciate what you guys are saying, but the chances of me going the speeds needed to kick into OD at WOT are pretty slim.

If I am screwing around I will just hit the OD off button.

I was using a gear calculator and with 4.10 gears, and the 1.00 3rd gear ratio of the trans, and at 6000rpm shift point I would be doing around 110mph. That aint going to happen on the street with me driving.
