is it bad for the paint, to leave a black car sit in the sun all day. or is paint all the same.

It's probably not good for any paint to leave it in the sun. If it has to sit in the sun, I guess all you could do is wax it real well and/or use a car cover. Probably won't be able to block the sun

just wax it on a regular basis and it will be fine

It does not matter, is it fresh paint or is it factory paint- if its factory u have nothin to worry about, its not gonna fade all of the sudden, but if it is fresh paint, you never know what kind of products they used to clear the car, and what effects the "heat" not sunlight have on that particular product. It takes a LONG time for the clear coat we use at my shop to die back, and even then you can just sand and buff it again for perfect luster - you'll notice the die back more on a black car than anything else, and any dings by the way lol good luck

Put your hand on a black car after it has sat in the hot sun for a while. Then do the same on a white one. That should tell you something. Black cannot last as long. There's just no way. I've owned cars of all colors. White lasts the longest. Red fades real quick too. Black will "die" and get real chalky. It requires very regular waxing to keep it looking good. Here it is in scientific terms: Black is the absense of color. Therefore, it absorbs all the colors in the spectrum. White is the color of light. Therefore it reflects all colors in the spectrum. You know, you just can't beat the look of a clean black car though. Wax on-wax off!!

Wrong, you have them backwards, black is reflection of all colors that is why it gets hotter, white is the absence of color it does not reflect any so it is cooler.

I have an 89 gt vert that is black. Looks as good as the day it was bought.
I wax it 4 times over the summer. It is tored in the winters though.

I guess that depends on when you bought it now doesn't it? Seriously, black takes a little more effort, but can stand the test of time if cared for properly.

Maybe location could be a factor... here in Florida, the sun is a sky-mounted grill. Bakes everything, especially darker color cars. Clear coat lasts a few years and that's it, unless garage kept. I had to build a carport for my white '89, but that was to keep the top in good shape and protect the dash, etc.

My car is originally from Colorado (closer to the sun) and my paint is in sad shape-little snowflake like cracks all over the place until I have the money for a good paint job I'll have to keep using the black wax to try and hide them. A guy here at work has a red 3000 gt and it looks pink. IMO red & black are the worst to keep up but look the best when they are.

I own a black car and find that Mequires wax is the best. If you cant do that, try and keep in the shade as much as possible.

Its if kind of confusing b/c when you think of night time it is black out b/c there is no light. But there is a difference between light, and color. But anyway, regardless where you live if you take care of your car all year round any color paint will look good for along time. Im up in Boston I drive my car every day to work, and dont even ask me how much snow we got this year. It snowed last week, no joke. I have only hand washed my car since new all year round. I wax it 4 times a year, and clay bar it twice. My car has virtually no swirl marks, and looks as good as when i got it.

You guys are wrong about your therory of reflection. The rate sun light reflects off a surface is called the Albedo factor. White and silver would have the higest albedo factor in mustang colors, that means it reflects more sunlight. Black and dark colors have a much lower albedo rate so they absorb more. Kind alike wearing a black metallica shirt on a hot day, but change it to the white AC/DC shirt and you much cooler.
