I haven't been reading these forums for a while, so if I'm about the thousandth person to comment on blizzaks or snow, forgive me

Anyway, I suffered through last winter with the stock 17s and some crappy half bald "performance" tires. Not to sound like some wannabee or something, but I've raced dirt tracks for a while now and I'm able to control my car and make it do what I want it to do. Well, last winter here in NE Ohio was one of the worst I can remember, and my car wouldn't go ANYWHERE. I'd get stuck in parking lots, streets, and even going up the interstate one day when everybody else was moving along fine.

Sooo, I broke down and bought some silver 15" 2000 v6 wheels for $100 on ebay. They actually look pretty good on my white 97 gt. Then I got a set of 205/65/R15 Bridgestone Blizzaks WS-50 for $75 a piece.

Holy crap, That was the best $400 I've ever spent

I drove around today in the 7-8 inches of snow we got here in Ohio, and the thing drove like a dream. No problems whatsoever. Takes off great, corners great, and stops great. I even went to an unplowed lot and had absolutely no problems. I'd compare it to driving on wet pavement with performance tires on. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it went from being the worst car ever to one of the best cars I've ever driven in the snow.

Anyway, to stop my rambling, if you're driving in the winter, get some Blizzaks! It'll make you and everybody around you a ton safer in crappy weather.

How are the Blizzaks on dry pavement as far as ride, handling and noise? I was seriously debating between those and the Michelin Arctic Alpins that I bought. I was pretty happy with the Alpins on my last car, and they were a little cheaper. But the Blizzaks are suposed to be a little better in snow and ice. Either way, it sure beats the 17" Gatorbacks.

How long do those Blizzaks last?
I've been using my Michelin Alpin's for 2.5 years and still have a lot of tread left.

Either way, snow tires are absolutely necessary on our cars in the snow

HOLY CHIT!
I just put the rims with blizzacks on before the snow hit the new england. I am soooooo glad i got them. I had absolutely no problems driving around today. Last year i wasnt able to move around at all, i got stuck two times, and i mostly left my car parked and mooched rides off of friends....it was very frustrating to say the least. This year? I'm cruisin by suvs and all the fwd cars with ease!!!

I'm simply stunned. I had no idea that snow tires can make such an unbelievable difference!!!

To get these a cheap price I would recommend doing exactly as jesse has done. Get a cheap set of V6 rims or even basic 15" steel rims and put a set of Blizzacks on those. For the best possible case you will want to get tires that aren't as wide as you have during the summer (wide tires grip at the snow more poorly than thinner ones). This way you can install your summer and winter ones whenever you decide and it will save wear and tear on your nicer rims.

I've heard nothing but good things about Blizzacks and once I get my Stang, I will be getting some for these fun Canadian winters.

If you have upgraded your front brakes (rotors) then you will need 17" rims [to clear the caliper]. Otherwise 15" or 16" rims will work.

FWIW, I got new 16" steel wheels, plastic hub caps (blush, blush), and 215/60R-16 WS-50 Blizzaks, all delivered for just about $600. Much cheaper than a trip to the body shop (or hospital).
