If I want a huge front mount (mainly for looks, and because turbo kits are stupid-expensive for the 4.6), would it have any issues?

I was thinking something along the lines of an intercooler with side piping, not center. Where would tubing run on it anyways?

Here's a pic of my procharger front mount intercooler that is connected to my Vortech S trim with custom piping we made at work.

...go on eBay and buy one of those "FMIC air filter".

If you want something to perform well, go custom, BTI, Paxton, few others, etc.

What about the richard racing IC with hand-fabbed tubing? Would it be adequate cooling?

I think I paid $250 for the used intercooler from my cousin who's procharger P1 failed. The piping wasn't that bad, I just bought some U-bends and cut and welded them up to match a fast track intercooler's piping setup.
