Blowing fuel pump hose off!

Alright, this is now the third time this has happend and I'm trying to find an alternative.

I somehow managed to blow off the hose that connects the fuel pump to the pickup tube a couple weeks ago. I figured it was due to the clamps coming loose and just threw it back on and tightened it all up. Although the rubber hose looked a bit rough under the hose clamps, I figured it was fine.

Once again the hose blew off and promptly replaced the worm gear clamps with some high pressure hose clamps.

This is know the third time the hose blew off (with the high pressure clamps even)...and I'm begining to wonder if I have other underlying issues.

I'm going to simply replace the hose...but I've yet been able to locate one. Seeing as they are pre-formed there is not an autoparts store around that carries them. I hate going to the stealerships for items like these....so is it possible to simply replace it with some non-formed fuel line? How about the high pressure fuel line with the liner?

There is not supposed to be a rubber hose with screw clamps
connecting the fuel line or the return line on a FI mustang.
As the pump delivers almost 70 PSI the rubber hose will most
likely wiggle off at some time.

If you look at the end of the fuel line you should see a small bump
about 3/4 inch from the end. You need the original high pressure
hard fuel line from Ford or a junk yard.
This uses a plastic horseshoe clip that pushes in the side of the line
and slips over the bump in the line, locking in the hose.

NAPA sells a kit that has two hose ends with the locking clip for
use with a 3/8 inch High Pressure hose $5 a foot). Using a
High Pressure clamp you can make up a new rubber hose.

Really, I have no idea what your talking about. Maybe it's because it's been a loooong time since I removed my origianl fuel pump...but every aftermarket pump out there comes with a pre-formed s bent rubber hose that connects the fuel pump directly to the pickup tube...with worm clamps none the less.

It's a Mustang, not a Corvette. FI Mustangs came with preformed rubber hose and clamps where the pump attaches to the hard line inside the tank. In fact, most cars came like this, probably including Corvettes.

The duckbill fittings you are referring to are on the outside of the tank.

That's what I thought...for a second there I thought I had taken a few too many puffs of the crack pipe.

Anyways, I picked up some 5/16 high pressure fuel injection line (with the liner) from the parts store. It fits super tight on the end of the pump, so hopefully that along with the high pressure clamps will fix the issue.

Just an FYI. The supply line is 5/16" and the return is 1/4". The correct plastic hose and duckbill fittings for the outside of the tank can be purchased at http://www.ronmorrisperformance.com...ode=rmp&Category_Code=Fuel_Fittings&Fuel_Line.

YOU ARE RIGHT.
I thought you were referring to the outside
lines.
I just changed my 89 pump and just
reused the internal rubber line to the
hardline.
The fitting is so short and
fixed, I can't imagine any way it
could
LEAK unless the worm screw was
not tightned.

Not only were the worm clamps super tight, I switched to high pressure fuel injection clamps in an attempt to fix it.

I had the same prob as you.

I ended up doubling up the hose clamps. So there were two hose clamps on each end of the hose instead of just one. It worked for me but as always there are no guarantees.

I havebt personally had this problem BUT!! if I were you I would try to rough up or cut nothes in the tubing or the pump I guess, well what ever the hell it clamps to, kind of similar of what you would do for charge pipe for a turbo car.
