My appologies. I really didn't want to get this into being so technical.

Actually, I was the one who first mentioned an outside antenna to extend the range. My apologies.

Bluetooth is something different. No help on range, but designed for convenience inside the vehicle. It is still "wireless" (the old name for "radio"... why did they bring back the 100 year old name???) and has an internal antenna so you do not have to connect it to anything in the vehicle, unlike my Motorola V-720, where the phone snaps into a holder for handsfree, and is then cabled to mile, speaker, etc.

No confusion here. I did not say external antenna.

Well, it was an external antenna placed on the outside of the car that we were exactly talking about, to which you choose to add all your comments.

No, actually, they weren't. The thread is about Bluetooth, which is the radio link between the cellphone and the car's handsfree electronics. There is an antenna, of course. But it is inside the car, not outside.

Look at comment #6, and also look at my diagram, which explains the whole configuration. Someone commented that Bluetooth had no antenna, which is not correct, since it is a radio link, and must have one.

Nope, you are off base and topic still.

This tread is about "bluetooth option for handsfree cell phone operation". Go back and actually read the question in very first posting (which is by Run0740).

It was then it was brought up if this option included an external antenna. A cellular antenna that can be mounted on the outside of the car, which possibly could increase signal strength "seen" by the cell phone.

A perfectly reasonable point to raise.

Many handsfree cell phone systems for cars do include an external antenna. However, while that works OK for a handsfree system which connects up to the cell phone by way of a cable or wire, it doesn't work when it connects up to the cell phone without any wires (ie, bluetooth).

While you are technically correct that bluetooth has an antenna and draw real nice pictures, that is really irrelevant to the on-topic discussion of whether the base unit of the subject bluetooth option for handsfree cell phone operation(aka Ford's dealer installed Mobile-Ease option) includes an external cellular antenna or not.

I think the name of the company that is making the Mobile Ease is called Pieper Acoustic or something like that.

I dont know how close this is to how the Ford Bluetooth will work. This is Chryslers U-Connect with Bluetooth.
