I am preparing to join the two halves of my project.

I find a puzzling difference in a dimension between the front clip and the rear section. Not big a one but around 1/2". The dimension is the floor flange to floor flange distance.

I have the factory underbody dimensions for the 65 but it doesn't specify the dimension from the floor flange to floor flange.
This is pecular because the Frame align dwg for the 69-70 does call out that dimension.

'65 frame align dwg:
'69-70 frame align dwg.

A fellow in germany claims the floor flange to floor flange dimension is the same between the two years. This is somewhat consistant with what I measure.

Have any of you measured this dim. on your car(s)?

Roy.

Anyone measuring their car for this--be aware I think this is to be an inside edge to inside edge measure. Just want to make sure we get consistent responses.

That is correct.

To clarify, I need a couple of people to measure one or both of the two dimensions shown in the diagram below.

I expect that the measurement of the inner rail will be slightly different at the top and bottom. (because of chassis flexability).

Your help will be much appreciated.

Roy.

PS.
Please specify whether fastback or coupe, and year.
They should be the same, I'd like to see the variation.

I looked in the '66 body dimension book I have, and it shows the measurement as 54 3/4 at what looks to be the jack point in the front. And 55 1/2 just ahead of the front mount of the leaf springs. (the measurements are from the same spots as your 69 diagram) I could fax you a copy on Monday if you wish.

Thats great guys, it confirms the measurement as the same between the 65-66 and 69-70!
A little surprising but within what I can adjust mine to.

I get various dimensions ranging from 54-3/4 to 55-1/4 on the front clip and back half.

I'll set the dimension at or very near to the factory 54-3/4 dimension.

I started making the final cuts for fitting the two halves together yesterday.
I hope to start joining the halves this week!

Got my fingers crossed I can match everything up!

Whoops! you don't mean the rocker panels aren't parallel do you? That would be pretty strange, is there a chance you are looking at two simular but different measurements? I may have caused some confusion, what I refer to as the "inner rail" is called "112-212 ROCKER PANEL, Complete Inner" in the NPD catalog.

I don't have a fax, but I'll see if I can get access to one.

Roy,
Not that I hold any stock in aftermarket parts or reproduction parts, but I did notice over the weekend that the same "full floorpan" that the parts vendors are selling works for all early model Mustangs from 65 - 73. The only difference noted was variations in ribbing. From this I think we can safely say that the rocker to rocker measurement should be the same from a 1970 to a 1965/66 model.

Thanks Dave, now I feel stupid, I pore over catalogs all the time and never noticed that.
I'm going to go with the 54-3/4" measurement.
I may be able to get the final cuts finished today. I've been taking it pretty slow hoping I don't screw up, but it's time!
