Body replacement

Short story, my wife and I were driving Route 66 from end to end, a complete nut job that I think was suicidal, deliberately rear ended my 65 fastback at about 45mph. end result being we are basically OK but I now have a short wheelbase 65 mustang. I have not got the car back home to do a full assessment but the damage is extensive,
my question is have any of you heard of a company called "Drake Customs" I have looked at their website, there is a local distributor and given that Dynacorn does not build a 65 body yet, this might be a viable option

any thoughts or experiences??

Tough luck. My Mom had an 84 LX CV for 20 years, sold it last year to a young guy who put a lotta work into it. He had it 6 weeks. Woman slammed him in the rear at a stop sign, never even slowed down, at about 45 mph. She was using her laptop.

Dunno anything about Drake Customs, but their website is so thin you can see through it, almost no info at all. Not encouraging.

Hard to say when Dii might have a 65. They are probably going to do a 65-66 convertible first, but that's a guess based on the parts they are bringing out, such as this:

If the hit was hard enough to mess up anything forward of the trunk (roof, floor boards, etc), it probably isn't worth repairing. If you are determined to fix it, look for a donor fastback to steal the pillars and other parts that aren't being reproduced.

Depends what you are willing to repair. The roof and the inner structure of the roof vents are about the only thing to the rear of the dash thats original.

I expect the insurance company to write it off, in which case I will by it back, as there is far too much good stuff to give up
ideally I would find a decent shell and just swap everything over
I also realize it "can" be fixed, but is the effort worth the return compared to finding another decent body

I also am considering taking my driveline and building a Cobra replica?????

Well. I admit the above car wasn't hit. It had a minor corrosion problem.

Actually Dynacorn says they are working on the 65-66 fastback Body shell next with a convertible to follow. You can already see the fastback parts (most notibly the roof) being sold by Mustang parts vendors. I contacted Dynacorn and asked about the Fastback body shell because I am very interested in getting one when it comes out. If you search their web site question and answers section you can find the whole discussion on the body styles. If it were me I would save the wrecked body (and my money) and wait for the fastback body shells to come out and then transfre everything, including the VIN to that car. You'd have a completely new body.

Sounds like they are racing themselves, because they are also coming out momentarily with a convertible top frame, which leaves them only about 5 pieces short of a complete convertible body.

Now you've got me thinking, maybe I should wait until they come out with the convertible body and then transfer my coupe parts onto it...hmmm...decisions, decisions!

Just remember, "soon" to a company like Dii could be a year, or more.

I was pricing material to change my '66 coupe to a fastback, they now make the pieces needed to do this conversion. Roof, etc.

Roof Panel
Rear brace
Front Brace

Here's just 3 parts I was told they don't make, I had a parts list compiled, but I cannot find it. Total parts cost was ~ $2000 with glass (no windshield)... using repo parts. Cannot remember if that included all vent extractor parts.

Until I buy a house to where I can do such structural work, I'm just going with a temp paint job to last 1-3 yrs.

If the cars got sentimental value to it, I'd say go for it unless it's just way beyond repair.
