I've been planning on making my '91 a weekend only car as soon as I get something else to drive this fall. I had planned on investing some $$$ in getting the body work done and have it repainted. With the exception of a nice dent in my rear passenger quarter panel (courtesy of a neighbor) and the need to replace the front bumper/ground effects, the car is in decent shape. No visible rust and the paint is still fair. Now to my question: I had a mechanic not to bother fixing up this car, saying that the sheet metal on a car as old as mine is too thin this at this age to be worth fixing up (I guess the dent will require some bondo work). Is there any truth to this? It's been my plan for some time now to fix up the ol' Stang and this is a bit demoralizing.

Anything is fixable!!! Depends on how much you like it and are willing to spend. I really don't think that your car would not be worth fixing, but with out seeing the dent it is hard to say. Do you have a pict? Unless your car has alot of salt damage from those northern winters I would probably still fix it. If the dent is bad enough I would cut out the outer back skin and weld in a new one.

End the end it depends on you and money!!!

Well, I did plan on investing a few $$$ into it. It wouldn't be worth doing a half-assed job on it.

the mechanic must be an idiot and hes no autobody man so his statement hold no water!! unless the car is rusted out and it payed for it worth fixing!!
