do they make a turbo-style muffler? mine is extremely quiet with a o/r x-pipe. ive put maybe 150 miles on it now it seems to be quieter in upper rpm's than lower.

i also have a borla cat-back from a 98 saleen but it didnt fit but it was much much louder (had 3,000 miles on it tho)

do they just need to break in or did i piss away 700 bucks i ordered it from brothers performance it came with big phantom tips instead of the intercooled ones pictured on the page. but it didnt say anything about turbo mufflers. im worried thats what i have and its not what i wanted.

The mufflers you have look just like mine. I have the regular cat-back on my 01 GT with stock H-pipe and headers. Its louder than stock for sure but its tame compared to others. I have about 3000 miles on my cat-back and it seems to be getting a bit louder as time gos on . Im happy with it. Sounds like you want the XR1 race mufflers. Those would probably meet your needs.

I have Stingers and I would say that they're in the extremely loud catagory.

i just spoke with borla, he said this cat-back is very similar to what saleen would've put on. it is similar to a turbo-style muffler and the xr1 cat-back was on the 98 or older saleens and they dont have a xr1 cat-back available for the newer models. he suggested a stinger cat-back. what is that like glasspacks? similar to a magnapack cat-back? i dont want that. i just want whatever saleen put on. ive heard some newer saleens with the borla and a x-pipe they are nice and loud??

I have the Steeda cat-back(Borla made it) The mufflers look just like the Borla ones but have the steeda logo on them,( sound damn near the same to me?)
They started out really quiet and have gotten progressivly louder over the last year...
And when I went from my Bassani O/X to BBK longtubes and shorty O/X They got a little quieter but WAY deeper and and alot smoother sounding...

Well I guess it depends on how you define loud. you have the tubro muffler style catback. you should have got the stinger if you want louder. I have the borla kit with o/r x and I love it. it is loud but not "loud". here is a clip of mine. it tends not to be insanly loud at WOT. I guess I am a wierdo or something though because I see not point in having this insanly loud exhaust on a street driven 13sec car. I just want mine to sound nice not obnoxious.

this is a kind of crappy clip I got form my camera but it shoudl give you an idea of volume level of a kit with miles on it.

what i was sayin was mine's about as quiet as a stock mustang for some reason. is yours the turbo muffler style aslo? is it just this or stinger im guessing? theres a borla cat-back on eBay with a completely different part # than mine. the only difference is phantom tips on that one tho.

EDIT: ok urs sounds MUCH louder...how long did it take to break-in/get that loud? i put the xpipe on at the same time maybe that needs to break in too?

Sounds like you might like the traditional mustang sound (flowmaster!) better. Your **** does sound pretty quiet, though!

SALEEN USES MAGNAFLOW, NOT BORLA.

They switched years ago.

This is why Borla does not have a catback for newer Saleens, because Saleen figured out that the Magnaflows made more horsepower.

Part number 15671 has the same mufflers that Saleen uses.

New Saleens even say Magnaflow on the tips from the factory.

well you said you have an o/r x so there is nothing to break in. mine is the turbo muffler style but it is the normal aftermarket kit but I would think the mufflers are thes same borla. could tell you. I was extremely dissapointed when I had my stock midpipe it sounded a little louder than stock basicaly had a diffenet tone. once I put the vrs o/r x on there it sounded like a diffenent car that was about 5k down the road though so I don't know if they really broke in that much or not.

If you really have no cats that stumps me. unless they use a different muffler for the saleen kits.

Question for the magnaflow guy. Do you or saleen have the data to back that claim up. the stuff I have seen on the internet had bassani, borla, magnaflow all so close to each other there was really no true advantage to any of them IMO. one may have hd a bit more peak but one may have had more torque.

well maybe mine needs to break in some if u had 5,000miles on urs. i only have about 150. hopefully it will get louder.

on a brighter note i spoke with someone else today at borla who told me the actual internals of the muffler were different to the ones they sold to saleen so he transferred me to the 'saleen' guy at borla who unfortunately was away from his desk. i left a message hopefully he'll get back to me soon so i can straighten it out.

thanks guys for the feedback so far
