I was just curious on which kind of paint to use to paint my brake calipers so that it will not look cheap or trashy - if it's possible.
I have a red 99 and i wanted to paint the calipers to matc this summer.

Hey sparky!

I did mine over the winter and they have held up great. You have two options on the market. One is a spray paint and the other is a coated enamel. The enamal product I have seen, but I don't remember where. It is about $80 and comes with 4 - 5 different colors. Sounded cool.

I used spray for about $6. I got my paint from:

http://www.sacramento-mustang.com/cgi-bin/cart.pl

That link should put the actual paint up, otherwise do a search when you get there. Only use a paint designed for calipers!!! It most hold up to the heat. Ever seen a bad paint job on calipers? Here is how to do it and have them come out GREAT:

1 - Jack the car up at one end. Pull the wheel off.

2 - Use a good quality cleaner to clean the caliper (409 whatever...just get the grime off). Use a blow dryer to dry them if you are in a hurry.

3 - Use tape and plastic to tape-off the wheel well so that you can spray and only paint the caliper. Keep in mind, that can not see the entire caliper when the rims on back on. If you want, you can remove the calipers and paint them on a flat surface.

4 - Now here's the secret: Shake the can really well. Spray the caliper. It will look like crap. Take a small paint brush and brush over the fresh paint. Then hit is with a blowdryer for about a minute. Drink a beer, whatever. Wait until it is nearly dry to the touch. Then repeat the process with the spray, brush, and blowdryer. You will need 5 - 6 coats per caliper. The last one or two, you will not need to use the brush.

The paint may or may not match the paint on your car. You will have to see if it is close enough.

Good luck!
